  • Need Advice On PC Purchase

After some discussions with my father, it seems that we are getting closer and closer to purchasing a PC. I mean, it is hard to pass up an offer of a 1/3 of the cost to be paid for . So now the questions begin:

    1) What is the best PC available?
    2) Where have yall found the best place to get them is for pricing?
    3) What extra accessories will I NEED/WANT to get to go with this?
    4) What products should I assume I will need to get/try out with it?

We are going to be using it on both of our cars. Mainly mine because I care more about mine. I have a crystal blue metallic paint so swirls do not show easily yet I know they are there. He has a silver Lincoln Town Car with the same result.

I bought a "kit" from Meguiar's when I attended the Mustang 40th in Nashville. Even though the pc has a higher price (but, comes with a lifetime warranty..the other folks selling them do not have the same warranty), the entire kit came with all the tools and polish/wax/mf bonnet that I need. It has been the absolute best investment I ever made for detailing equipment and supplies.

Meguiar's has a catalog with several pre-packaged kits for the pc. Call their 800 number and have them get you a catalog or go to their online sales site for details.

You won't be disappointed in choosing a package kit.

      PC Collections

I bought the Concourse Collection back in March or so. I'd agree ALOT of stuff for a great price. The only thing I find is I'm now switching more the the professional line of products (83, soon to purchase 81).

But, this a great starter collection for a great price!

        This is what I did:

Bought the 7424 Porter-Cable Polisher from Amazon then went to Meguiars and bought their PC kit containing: 1 Backing plate 2 Polishing pads 1 Finishing pad; the kit was about $32.00

You might also want to pick up a couple other pads for backup just incase one gets damaged in the middle of a detail.

The Porter-Cable Brand PC is the same machine and the Meguiars PC. Porter-Cable makes the for Meguiars; but if you go with the Meguiars PC you will also get a lifetime warranty!

        Just another idea!

Auto Detailing Solutions has some great package deals. This is the cheapest Meguiar's G100 PC I have found. The only way to go cheaper is to get a non Meguiar's PC which does not have the lifetime warranty (and with my luck with buffers in the past it's worth it for the warranty).
          Later,
          Ricky

the best PC is the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher. i forgot the model numbers though, there is a bunch. basically what accessories came with it.
Meguiar's G100 is the same thing, just with a lifetime warranty. other places sell it under the Porter Cable name and for cheaper than the Meg's G100, but they come only with a limited warranty.

as to where you can get them from: depends on whether you're willing to spend the money for the Meg's one or not. if not, i know Lowe's carries them (don't know the pricing though). try searching the internet for porter cable dual action polisher/sander.

you'll definitely need a velcro backing plate, like the one meguiar's sells, and a bunch of foam pads. there are three different types of foam pads: cutting, polishing, and finishing. you'll probably want at least 1 of each. once you get more experienced and know what you need, you can buy them accordingly. but to begin with, having one of each is good.

the PC is very good for swirl removal, polishing, glazing, and applying your LSP, esp. if your LSP is a liquid like NXT. basically the PC is like a bionic hand, and can pretty much do whatever you would do by hand. you can even use the PC to remove products, although you'll need to use some MF bonnets for that. so yeah, the PC can be used with almost any liquid product, whether it be a polish, glaze, or wax.

one thing you'll find is that it is fairly easy to use and get nice results. have fun!
