what are the added benefits of double waxing your car?

Say you wax once a month, does this mean you can double wax every two months?

at this point, I can't seem to see its added benefit.

    please advise.

When you say double wax are you reffering to applying two coats of wax? If so, the purpose of applying two coats is to ensure uniform wax coverage therefore leaving a uniform appearance.

double wax is to ensure you properly cover the paint's surface.

For shine and/or protection - theres basically 2 school of thoughts. Some will go for it, some say "nah..." . So many things on layering - soft wax over hard wax, wax over sealants, wax/sealants over AIO products...list goes on and on...

Here's the deal. If you personally see that there is exponential benefits in layering, then do them.

I even saw (reality) a guy that does layering as crazy as 7 layers of boutique wax (the Z's and the S's) and some will just say "bah...wadda a waste..." . So again, its up to you.

Anyhow, here's a good link on an answer from Mike P. on layering

        What's the deal with "Layering?"

        Hope this helps.

I agree the purpose of two thin coats is to insure complete and uniform coverage. Have you ever noticed that when you apply a coat of wax, its oops I missed that spot. Well I think statistically it would be hard to miss the same spot twice. Just my take on it.

It's for a uniform look and protection, with one application of wax some section could be more protected then others so the point in two coats of wax is to ensure that you are getting an even protection and look

              Gasti ako,

One of the things you need be cognizant of is that human nature isn't always right its assumptions. Most people assume that if one is good, two must be better and therefore 10 must be exceptional, however, what Mike Phillips always writes about is the law of diminishing returns.

Let me use an example specifically relevant to me (right now). I'm on serious pain medication and the prescribed dose is 650mg. Maybe doubling it might decrease the pain, but it gets to a point where to many pills start to get dangerous. Although putting on 10 coats of wax won't be dangerous to your paint, it is a lot of time and waste of product.

Actually, the Meg's guys truly stand alone with this approach. Think about it... they are basically tell you NOT to put on more than two coats and to put the LSP on as thin as possible, resulting in using LESS product. If they were here simply to maximize Meg's profits without consideration of what works best, they'd say... go ahead and layer NXT 10 times, put it on thick and chisel it off!!! Next thing you know, two waxes and its time to get some more NXT.

So, as the pros say, two applications is best at insuring uniform coverage but there is no need to get into the ridiculous number of applications you'll read from others.

Maybe the mod's can add a specific topic to the "myths and confusion" section about the myths of layering.

I also think another myth (which Mike Phillips cleared up for me) when I first joined was the notion of one wax being specific for a particular car color. I remember one of my first posts I put up was "what will look best on white", because I had been reading a lot of internet misinformation, so maybe we can add that to myths and confusion.

                  • Uniform coverage
                  • Uniform appearance

If you are confident you're doing a great job of applying a coating of wax over the entire surface then you can stop after one coat.

                    Re: Double waxing

Remember that wax is assaulted by the elements immediately. There is no conclusive evidence that applying 2 layers of wax "doubles" the protection. The more likely scenario is that you will receive uniform coverage. The best way to maintain and extend the wax's effectiveness is to make sure the car is clean (either GC wash or a quick detail product i.e. UQD) or use a spray wax to extend the protection. A carnuba based wax will break down quickly in extreme heat, a synthetic wax will last longer but will eventaully lose its effectiveness.

you see I have the paste and liquid version of nxt 2.0. and the nxt spray wax. basing from your replies, it doesn't really matter at all if you use the NXT paste over the liquid or the other way around. the spray wax is more of a booster wax for maintenance. am i right?

thanks for your reply. I am really happy with the answers. My take is to meticulously apply the first coat of wax so as not to double wax for the sole purpose of uniformity.
