  • Metal Polish on a Wristwatch???

    Hey Everyone,

Been using Meguiar's products on my Acura TSX (mostly the NXT line) for years and loving it!!!

I do have a question which I don't know if anyone has considered this or not. Has anyone tried to use one of Meguiar's metal polishes on a wristwatch? If so, what did you use? I've got a few stainless steel/titanium watches which I'd like to restore the luster to. I did see that thread where the kitchen sink was polished (great job BTW) and then I wondered about using it on a watch.

    Thanks.

For years I've used the buffer wheel and rouge compound that is standard issue with a Dremel tool and others like it. This is particularly useful on scratches in the stainless. My latest "tool" is a battery powered dental polisher that you can pick up in the grocery store for $5-10, using PlasticX as the abrasive, to do the crystal.

Sure! I've used M86 and M105 to polish up bracelets and all sorts of watch parts.

Here is a bracelet I did with M105 and then Hot Rims Metal Polish using a Dremel and felt wheel:

As you can see, you have to polish the whole thing in order to get to the center links. Then, you use a 3M foam pad to add the correct brushed look. I use the Omega Titanium pad (by 3M) and it works fine.

I like to use M02 on the crystal, but mine is hesalite (Plexiglass). Sometimes, it's hard to polish out scratches on sapphire crystals. I've used some ScratchX and it worked fine.

Well I'm looking doing it by hand. I don't trust myself using a buffer wheel on my watch.

Aw, come on... video it & put it on you tube... then we can guess how far it get slung before hitting a wall! Kidding.
The only reason some people get lost in thought... is because it is unfamiliar territory for them.

Yeah, the Dremel will create a pretty nice line of splatter if you're not careful.

If the scratches are fairly deep, you may want to start off using M105 and a terry cloth. Then you can use a metal polish of your choice. If not, I'd just use the metal polish and a terry cloth.

I suggest something like SEMICHROME POLISH, I use it for aluminum and other metals.

It has oxide removing compounds and fine polishing abrasives.

Use it both by hand or with a "Dremel" tool at low speeds.

              "Q" tips can help also

I'd remove the time piece first and secure the band with tape.

Thanks Chris. I might want to try NXT polish with a terry first.
