  • When to dress the exterior trim?

I recently purchased a bottle of Gold Class Trim Detailer. In the next two weeks I'll be doing a thorough washing, polishing, waxing of my car. My question is this: When during the process should I apply the Trim Detailer to the exterior trim?

    Before I wash?

After I wash but before I mask the car for polishing and waxing?

    After I have waxed?

    TIA.

    Cheers,
    Al

I would do it as the last step.

Yeah, one of the last steps in the process. I only have the trim around the wipers to worry about and I do it towards the end.

The CG Trim Detailer is another great Meguiar's product and I love the look and durability of the stuff. It lasts long enough where if you want to skip doing this step for a few washes you certainly can.

I dress as the wax is drying and waiting to be buffed off.

Same here, I dress as the wax is drying.

Two ways I approach it: one way it to apply it before you wax..then if you accidentally get wax on the trim the trim detailer will make it very easy to remove. The downside to this is that you run the risk of smearing oily trim detailer onto the paint if it touches your pad.

Option two is to tape your trim to avoid getting wax on it (or be REALLY careful) and do the trim detailer at the very end. The downside to this is that you can accidentally smear some trim detailer onto your freshly waxed paint...but it usually will clean up fairly easily with some QD.

              It's a personal preference- really.

I do it as my last step.

I find that any little bits of GCTD that I might get on the paint or even on the glass, buff off easily with a mf.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I do it before waxing so if I get wax on the trim it will wipe off easier. I coat the trim, wax and after taking off the wax wipe down the trim. Works for me.
