  • What to use to make my exhaust pipe look like new again?

    Hi everyone

Is there anyway I can make this look shiny and reflective?

The only metal polishes I can find on Meguiar's are aluminum and chrome polishes, but I know the pipe isn't made out of chrome or aluminum.

Can this type of metal even be made reflective?

    Thanks

I dont think you'll get very far polishing it....

If you want to try though, use a mild wheel cleaner like the Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel cleaner, and give it a good scrubbing. Then try the Hot Rims Mag and Aluminum Polish with a terry cloth.

You can get your muffler a bit shiny if that helps....

That doesnt look like you could do much with it.

You can use a SOS pad and water. That will clean the surface rust and shine it a little bit. However, it will not be as shiny as a true aluminum exhaust system.

Sand paper would be my approach.

Start with a fairly aggressive sand paper then move your way up. Probably wont be able to use it as a mirror but itll look better.

Why don't you just spray paint it with a high heat silver paint. Dupli-Color makes a product specific for high heat applications.

Looks like a stock galvanized or zinc plated pipe,

Even if you polished it would only rust quickly. The appearance would be kind've shiny gray and you will need to sand and file the rust spots with tons of elbow grease and still not look like a shiny aluminum pipe.

In 1/100 the time why not cut the pipe back with about 2 or 3 inches of straight steel and bolt on a polished stainless steel down draft extension?

Perhaps even put on a tricked out stainless mellow sounding resonator and welded polished stainless tips

I was going to suggest what Ryan did. Remove the rust and paint it.

0000 steel wool should remove most of that stuff. I'd hit it with high temp flat black spray paint so it is hidden. Or like the other folks said, cut the pipe back and put a tip on it.

I agree with the others who suggested to cut it and put on a polished stainless steel tip. Kragen has a good selection of exhaust tips. Or sand it and paint it.

I was also going to suggest Ryans method.
