I have a 99 E300TD and recently noticed some of the diesel has spilled out of the cap and onto the paint while driving. I have washed the car but there is a discolored film aroung the gas tank door. Other than repainting the quarter-panel, are there any suggestions as to treating the affected area to remove the diesel associated damage?

On the other hand, Diesel is oily, like others said, try Gold Class Tar/Bug remover then you will have to rewax effected area.Philippians 2:14 - Do all things without grumbling or questioning,
