  • swirl x & scratch x 2.0 application?

I know this has been discussed many times because I have read the posts. I have followed the process of a foam pad app and supreme shine removal of both these products and did not have any luck as you show in the videos. I have a 2008 Ford Edge that has the dealer installed scratches in the hood, and you guessed it. It is black. I clay barred the hood first with Mequiar's clay kit and it worked great. After 3 apps of swirl x. The hood looked the same. So I went more aggressive with scratch x 2.0 and the hood looked the same. I did this by hand with no luck. Should I go more aggressive are try same with mechanical application. The scratches are in the clear coat and when you run your finger nail over them they feel smooth, so I assume they aren't that deep. any suggestions.

Since this is your first post...

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Are you working a small section? Anywhere from 8" square to about a foot squared?

You want to apply some pressure to the applicator pad because you are trying to remove small particles of the clear coat paint but not so hard you put in fingermarks.

You should be working the product rather quickly with the firm pressure, it's not a finishing wax.

If you're confident you're doing everything right then it might be time to bring out the big guns and try Ultimate Compound.

Just be sure to work small sections at a time. Take a panel like your hood and break it up into small sections and be sure to overlap your sections when finished with one section and moving to a new section.

Make sure you can make one small spot look good before going over the entire car.

      TEST SPOT

      Doing A Test-Spot

Before going over the entire car, see if you can make just one small section look good, that is apply the product you're planning on using over the entire car to just one small section about a foot squared or so. Work it in and then wipe it off, then apply the polish, work it in but not as much as the compound because now you're not trying to remove paint, just spread the product out, then immediately wipe it off, then apply the wax and let it fully dry and then wipe it off.

Now inspect our results. Make sure you can make one small section look GREAT before going over then entire car. If you can't make one small section look GREAT you won't be able to make the entire car look GREAT.

      Make sense?

      It should look like this,

And if you're having any problems, the post back here after the test section and we'll help you tweak your technique to insure you get it right.

Thanks Mike I will try a little different technique. I did break it up into small sections and just did the hood, but did not do it as rapidly as you are probably indicating. I did apply good pressure but at a slower pace. Probably as if I where applying a finish wax.
Again thanks for the advice. I will give it a try and let you know. Long time user of Meguiars, they are great products!

        Have a great day.
