  • Tar removal?

I was getting ready to wash my mom's truck the other day when i saw this

I clayed over it non stop for about 10 mins, and it made the clay nice and dirty, but came nowhere close to removing anything. Would it be best to buy the aggresive clay or does anyone know a good method to remove this gunk!

    Re: Tar removal?

I would use the Meguiars Gold Class Bug and Tar Remover,

spray it on, let it sit for 5-10 min and then agitate with soap and water and an older wash mitt, you dont want ot use good mitts on that area of the car.

I would recommend Tarminator from Stoner. It'll take that tar right off!

I agree with Tuck, try out the gold class bug and tar and see how that works out for you

Bug and tar remover would be good... #105 is also a good option.

Purple Power from Vatozone, AAP or anywhere like that. Its an industrial strength degreaser/cleaner.

WD-40 works every time! Just spray a little on a wrag and your good to go.

GC tar and bug remover works great....

I've also used wheel cleaner on our paint, but of course a coat or two of wax is needed afterward, but it scrubs it off pretty dang good. I used Meguiar's Multi Piece to do it and of course I did a test spot to make sure it didn't hurt anything and of course, the multi piece wheel cleaner can be used on painted wheels and cars have paint....

                        Re: Tar removal?

One thing that can complicate tar removals - cold water and cool air temps.

It will of course turn into almost rock when cool or when cold water from a hose hits it.

Before using anything else, try and get it warmed up a bit, face it to the sun, garage it, or if all else fails, use a heat gun and slightly warm it up.

I've had tar spots that were like pure rock hard asphalt turn smeary when touched in the sun.

Hope this helps even a little.
