Used car. Hasn't been polished in years

  • Used car. Hasn't been polished in years

    96 Probe GT. Ready to have at it this weekend. Paint looks decent. The previous owner had it for 2 years and said he only washed it. Appears to not have been polished in ages.

    Will claybar be sufficient to cut through to the paint/clearcoat, if it has any?

      Ford had pretty nice paint in 96, a good washing with a water based GP degrease mixed at 10 : 1 would make claying a bit easier. checking the paint with a mil gage would help you see where you are at if you have access to one.

        To keep it simple, and still get a full detail, you can do this:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay
        3. ColorX
        4. Wax - Nxt 2.0
