  • painless dent removal first or polish/wax first?

I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on purchasing a dual action polisher so I'm getting super excited. In the meantime, a #*&!ing hail storm ealier in the spring put a bunch of small dents into my 2006 black Honda Civic coupe. I'm going to go for some paintless dent removal but I'm wondering if I should hold off on that and detail my car first as to provide a flawless surface to see all the dents or does it really matter?

Would it help if I posted pics of the car or does that really matter?

    Thanks.

Detail 1st then give it to a PDR.
It will make their work much easier and more accurate to spot the location of the dent.

Thanks! Common sense tells me that that would be the logical order but I just wanted to hear from somebody elses senses.

I would have to agree...I also have a few hail dents and was wondering how much it would cost to have them fixed...have you recieved an estimate from the PDR yet?

Its fine to detail first, but keep in mind you'll probably have to re-polish over the places where dents were removed. PDR sometimes requires lots of tapping and pressure on the painted surface.
Dr. Detail: I am the detail genius from the movie "Shine."
          Guard: And your name is...?
          Dr. Detail: Uhh... Shiney McShine.

I see that you're in Nashville (big enough place) so if I were you I would find 5 or so places (from references online) and then proceed to get quotes from each place. After that it'll be personal preference...basically you'll have to decide which place you personally feel will handle you and your car the way you want.

I'm in Toronto and I haven't got my quotes yet but I have all my contacts in a list. It's just a matter of getting the quotes.

My damage isn't severe and the average person would look past it and say "who cares" but I know it's there and it's eats away at me every single day

I've seen some "before and after" pictures online from severage hail damage and then after it's repaired by PDR and it appears unnoticeable.

Looks like I won't be able to get my quotes for a while yet anyway because I have to wait until my dual action polisher gets shipped to my place...get some Meguiars products, do a test spot to figure out my plan of attack...then chain up my wife so she doesn't keep hounding me on why I'm spending so long "washing" my car, etc. Until my car's detailed, I can't get my quotes so...

But good luck with quotes and feel free to update us on your situation.

              That's a good title 'Painless'

              It's so apt.
