  • first time waxing car

Hey, this is going to be my first time waxing my car, I want it to have a shiney look to it, remove my hairline scratches and make it smooth. Is there a detailed tutorial for a list of the products that i will need?

    thanks in advance.

    No tutorial, just us....

    1. Wash - Gold Class, 2 buckets, quality mitts, towels

    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit, maybe an extra QD bottle

    3. Clean - SwirlX

    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

    5. Wax - 2 thin coats is best

    6. Maintain - Ultimate Quick Wax is great after future washes.

Is the 3 step cleaner good?

Meguiar's® Step 1 Deep Crystal Cleaner
      Meguiar's® Step 2 Polish

It's a great system, but depending on your expectations it may not be aggressive enough to remove the swirls to your liking.

If you really want to knock the swirls down you may want to add some SwirlX into the mix.

I've heard many mixed reviews on swirlx some saying that it actually harms your cars paint.

            Re: first time waxing car

I can harm my paint pretty good with a bucket of water if I do it right....

You just have to use a little common sense... smooth even pressure, work in small areas at a time, and do a test spot and check your work. Come back to us if you have problems.

I would recommend using wax, preferably car wax.

But seriously, what Murr said. Pick products that fit your car's individual needs and your personal skill level. Post a picture of your paint surface and briefly describe what results you intend to achieve and how much you want to spend. You need to give me something to work with here.

                Re: first time waxing car

Hi cy. The DC system is good, but step 1 and 2 won't really do anything for swirls. It can remove very, very fine scuffs though. Step3,carnauba.I think it's a good wax and lasts well. Gold Class is very good ,easy to apply and wipe off(a bit easier than carnauba). I'm just about ready to try NXT tech2.0.A lot here really like it.

The cleaner your surface has been prepared, the better the waxes will apply and wipe off.

Start at the bottom and work your way up, product wise. Props to CieraSL for making this list

"Step 3: Polish (listed in order of aggressiveness. These were the only ones I listed because they are the most popular and these are the ones that you will most likely be pointed towards if you need a paint cleaner)
                      M105 Ultra-Cut Compound
                      Ultimate Compound
                      Scratch X 2.0
                      Swirl X
                      M83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish
                      M205 Ultra Finishing Polish
                      Scratch X
                      M80 Professional Speed Glaze
                      Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner"

NXT Tech Wax 2.0 is probably the best option. Give it a try
