Can I sucessfully compound/polish a smoked third brakelight with 105/205 and a DA?
the brake light is for an 02 silverado. the paint is duplicolor lacquer.

Just realize that you will be removing some of the "smoked" coating if you polish it. It's impossible to say how much exactly (it could vary in hardness and thickness of course), but in theory, yes you should be able to polish it.
I would start with M205. -

I helped my brother with it and the clear is on pretty thick. So I'm not too worried about de-smoking the lens, even it I had to wet sand.
