  • Best regimen with my Meguiars G100

Ok, you probably don't get too many gals that are into detailing their car, but I have done it for years! I have had a Meguiars G100 buffer for a number of years and love it. It sure does a great job!

My current regimen has been to use Deep Crystal, Glaze, then the liquid wax. I see there are new products, any suggestions on modifying my current process?

    Thanks!

    Lisa

      Hi Lisa,

Your current choice of Deep Crystal 3-Step System is excellent. The 3-step system yields satisfactory results and is extremely user-friendly. However, if you want to get the most out of your G100, you may want to consider using the more aggressive Meguiar's Consumer products that are designed to use with the dual action buffer like your G100.

For paint correction (ie. swirl and scratch removal, bird dropping and water etching problems, etc), you may want to consider the following products:

These products are designed for use with the Dual Action Buffer and are easily attainable at your local department stores for under $10 a bottle. They are also fairly safe to use in that they rarely cause severe paint damage when used incorrectly.

On the scale of product aggressiveness, Ultimate Compound is the most aggressive while SwirlX is the least aggressive. Ultimate Compound is ideal for removing deep swirls and oxidation while SwirlX is for relatively light defects and swirls. ScratchX 2.0 is conventiently designed for isolated scratches. In most cases, SwirlX is a follow-up polish after Ultimate Compound.

For protection, you may use anything that is available. Gold Class Wax and NXT 2.0 are both great waxes.

Thanks so much! Sounds like I have been right on track. The new Ultimate Compound and NXT generation products sound excellent.

            Hello Lisa,

I would start with the least aggressive method possible with your G100. If your trying to remove swirls and scratches start with either M205 or SwirlX. and if needed move up to Ultimate Compound. Leave the M105 for as a last resort. Then use your wax of choice.

            Best of luck.

This is why I have chosen the less aggressive products, both of our cars, 03 Accord EX, and my 2008 CRV, don't have any problems with swirling or deep scratches. Here in Arizona, chipped paint is more of a problem due to all the junk that shoots up off the road. VERY annoying. The retouching with the paint they give you from the dealership is a joke, it looks hideous. But I have to say, when I did the Accord about three months ago with my process, it came out unbelievable well. The paint just lite up, just a very noticeable difference, even on a silver paint.

Hi Lisa, and welcome to MOL!

It's great to see that you've been putting that G100 to good use for a few years, and that you've come here looking at potential product updates. You could probably teach some folks here a thing or two, and we love your attitude about using less aggressive products to accomplish the task at hand.

We introduced products like SwirlX and Ultimate Compound so that weekend warriors like yourself, and so many others here on MOL and elsewhere, could easily find a product that was both affordable and highly effective. As fantastic as M105 is, it really is geared for a professional environment and is pretty potent stuff. But its key ingredients are unique enough that we have been able to "trickle down" that technology into products like SwirlX and Ultimate Compound, and blend them into a more user friendly product. These new products are so easy and effective that SwirlX has now replaced Deep Crystal Step 1 Paint Cleaner in the marketplace. If you've been using DC1 in the past you may have noticed that it's missing from store shelves. SwirlX would now be your product of choice for routine maintenance of your paint finish - and with the same effort as DC1 it will remove even more severe defects, or the same sort of defects as before, only faster.

maybe you could add ColorX, its a mild cleaner that is able to clean water spots, light swirls and oxidation, and has some wax in it, so its a All in one cleaner to clean your car... :]

or try out the #151 for even better results

I will check out the Swirl X as I am down to my last bit of DC1. And, yes I love my G100 machine as it is not about strength, it is about efficiency. I was a competitive powerlifter, so doing my car by hand was not a problem. When I got the G100, it simply got deeper into the paint, and the difference was noticeably better.

So save your pennies, as the G100 is a great investment!

+1 I bought the Porter Cable 7336SP a few years ago and a set of Megs pads and backing plate. I have to agree with you....it was the BEST detailing money I have spent. What part of AZ do you live.....I'm originally from Tucson.

That looks like my order, except M8x instead of M205 (haven't ordered any yet).

What color / brand pads are you using with each product?
