  • Fixable Scratch?

    Hi Guys,
I was wondering if i can get your guys expertise with a some scratches i have on my car spoiler. The scratches seems shallow, when i run my fingernails through it you feel the scratches but it doesn't get snagged, the pattern looks like tiny little threads all over.

    Thanks
    James

I have a couple pics of the scratches, but it was dark when i got home today so its under non-natural light.
If you guys need any more info just let me know and I'll be glad to answer.

It looks like the clear coat is failing.
Do you know if this part is plastic or fibreglass?
If it is failure, only a respray will do.

It looks as though you were trying something already?

Yes, that's clear coat failure - the second picture is a classic example. Unfortunately the only real way to correct it is to repaint. You may be able to make it look a tiny little bit better with some M105 and M07, but any improvement would only last a matter of days. Honestly, it isn't worth the time and effort - just get the spoiler resprayed. It's already off the car so you should be able to get it done for a couple hundred dollars at most.

You heard it from Mr.Stoops himself, it is Clear Coat Failure.

While there is nothing you can do now but repaint, once you do repaint, make sure to properly maintain the paint on your car and spoiler. You don't want this to happen to your entire car, or else you would need a whole repaint of your car.

(side note: most of the time you should allow at least 90 days before waxing a freshly repainted surface)

If you buy some supplies and properly maintain your car, it will save you a ton of money in the end!

and since this is your first post to MOL

Take a look at the Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.
