  • Restoring Dull/Oxidized paint

    Hello

I have a 2000 Ford F150 XLT that the paint has gone pretty dull or oxidized. I will appreciate any advice on how to attack this project. Please see pics.

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that appears to be the beginning of clear coat failure and unfortunately there isn't anything you can do to fix it short of a repaint.

If you look at some of the images in The Clearcoat Failure Photo Archive you'll see other vehicles with similar damage, in various stages of failure. Once this starts there's just no way to stop it and it will continue to degrade over time. Some products may make it look a bit better, but any improvement provided by a simple polish or wax will be very short lived - a matter of weeks or even just days.

Thanks a lot Michael. At least you saved me at least a day of work. I will get quotes for repainting it and then will keep it nice with good maintenance using Meguiars.

Either my eyes are going or my monitor is going but from the pictures I can NOT ascertain if the white stuff is the reflection of the clouds or failing clear coat.
