  • Is that workable or does it need replacement?

Well in the bad news serie here's how I found my car theother day. ;-(
Do you think it's workable with a compound (UC?) or is replacement the only option?

It's hard to tell from the pictue, but it looks like it needs to be replaced.

Did it just happen all of a sudden, or is it just something that happened with age?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

Hard to see in the image, but are we looking at a series of bad scratches or is the lens cracked? If just scratches can you feel them with your fingernail?

If you have a G110 or similar buffer you can certainly give UC a shot on a polishing pad to remove scratches. Your success level will vary but if you honestly think the lens is on the verge of replacement anyway, you've got nothing to lose by giving it a shot.

It's really hard to tell if the scratch go through or not. I dont think so but well.
The problem being it's a dayly driver, winter's getting close, and if I terminate the headlight before having the replacement, I wont be able to drive the car...
I guess I'll wait a little for some cash inflow, and if I have a more serious crash needing this to be replaced, I'll have the spare part...

Here are a few extra pictures on different angles.
Is it realistic t think I'll get anything done with UC by hand?

If the scratches have "depth" to them, I think you'll have to replace it.

OK I'll do that then. I guess I should be able to get rid of the minor scratches with UC in the meantime. Thanx all for your input !

OK So I replaced the headlight. Now a followup. Since the other one is original and is 3 - 4 years old, it looks much yellower than the brand new one. Funny how you notice it this way. I was wondering if I could restore it with the products I had, namely SwirlX and UC... Are these products goind to scratch the transparent plastic of the headlight? I have no PlastX available in my area and I'm not going to place another online order just for this either...
