  • little help - microfiber cleaner

Kinda a non-megs post, hopefully not inappropriate for this forum.

A friend referred me to a washing machine microfiber cleaner called "Detailer's Pride Microfiber Cleaner". Once I got it my wife informed me we have a "high efficiency" washer that requires special detergent. I am now scared to put this stuff in it.

I am too tight to be tossing away expensive towels and have heard regular detergent diminishes the microfiber effect.

Does anyone know anything about this product OR can you refer me to a Megs product that works with a HE washer? Or heck, any suggestion on to how to properly clean these insanely expensive towels would help!

I have an "he" front loader, and this is what I've been doing:

Small amount of laundry soap as usual, Put 1/4 scoop of Oxyclean in the "Pre-Rinse" cup of your front loader. Then, fill the softener cup 1/2 full of White vinegar. Wash on warm/warm setting as you would anything else.

I was skeptical that the vinegar would do anything, but they make the towels come out AMAZINGLY soft, and retain their absorbency.

Thanks OBS. My wife asks "how are you sure vinegar doesn't damage the sensors"?

Second the vinegar. No dryer sheets also.

I have used DP Microfiber Cleaner in a He washer. I use 2 to 4 oz. at warm temp depending on towel load without any bleaches (oxygen ones like OxyClean or chlorine). I have used vinegar but have not really seen a major difference but I chose the 2nd rinse option. Vinegar is usually intended to be sure all detergent is rinsed. This is may important if you add too much soap. Microfiber is a plastic material (polyester and polyamide) so it does not behave like fabrics like cotton. I dry at low heat with dryer balls.

I do Woolite and air dry. Worked so far.

I just use whatever I find sitting around in the laundry room...

Whatever you put in the fabric softener cup gets released into the cycle on the last rinse. It gets dilluted with the water. Don't know of any sensors in the tub. My only sensors are in the dryer where they monitor how dry the clothes are.

I wash with tide and go through a second rinse with vinegar. My MF's stay nice and soft like new. Sometimes I pre-treat stains with Woolite or Zout.

I'm very interested in this thread as the MF cloths I use seem to retain a slightly waxy feel and perform worse after the first use, no matter how I try to clean them. No detergent really seems to help..

Try using half the detergent that would normally be required AND putting a cup of vinegar in during the rinse cycle. It actually works. I was skeptical, but tried it out on my Water Magnets that were doing more smearing of the water than absorbing. After doing this, my Water Magnets are like new and soak up tons of water. All my microfibers get this treatment now.
