  • ArmorAll Wash and Wax - Meguiars to beat it

I drive my car every day to work around an area which has lots of small dust and sand particles.

It tends to stick to my car through the week after washing it with "ArmorAll Wash and Wax" every saturday. My car is dark green so I can see the small tiny particles of dust and sand easily.

Is there something i can use to "repel" these small grains of dust and sand?

I dont think ArmorAll is doing the job.

Hence why I am here to learn about Meguiars Products. Will Gold Class Wash do the same thing?

    Any help is great, thanks!

GC wash won't repel dust. The best thing to get rid of minor dust like that is a Quick Detail Spray. I'm not sure if that's the name it's sold under in AU. Basically, you sparay on a liberal amount and then use a high quality microfiber towel to wipe it off.

The spray has stuff in it that gets between the dust and paint to lubricate it so it won't scratch. You can also try using a California Duster to clean the car if it's just a light coating of dust that hasn't bonded to the surface.

I do not believe that any product you might apply to the paint surface will repel dirt and sand. Certainly no car shampoo is going to repel dirt and sand. But there are some waxes and sealants that seem to do a better of releasing dirt when washed than others (at least so I have read).

NXT is Meguiar's best protectant, but I honestly do not know how well it releases dirt. It leaves a pretty slick surface, so my guess is that it does a good job.

What sealant/wax are you using to protect your vehicle? If you are relying exclusively on a wash & wax product, then that is insufficient protection.

You might consider a routine similar to the one outlined in this article: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen.

      Good luck!

I have a simple solution but it may sound silly. Just try it on 1 panel and see if it makes a different. In order to greatly reduce the amount of dust on your paint after you apply wax or QD, just use a mf dampen with plain water. Squeze it until there is no water dripping and run it gently on the paint and glass, no pressure needed. Then wipe the water off with a dry and clean mf.

This will be the last step before you call it a day. I don’t know the logic behind this but it really works for me.

I've tried the AA W&W and it's terrible and I won't buy it again.

Quite often just the act of wiping a dry microfiber towel over the paint in order to remove hazed wax will introduce a static charge to the surface. This can be more noticeable on some composite materials - rear spoilers come to mind with some vehicles - and you can actually feel it doing the final wipe.

tincan's method of using a lightly damp MF towel is probably just discharging that static build up, which in theory at least would reduce the amount of dust accumulation. It would seem that using a QD spray of some sort as a follow up to either waxing or drying would help too, as the towel eventually becomes a bit damp with product.

But don't blame the AA W&W for the dust accumulation - a wash itself isn't going to play much of any role in this. Of course, Meguiar's new Ultimate Wash & Wax will have the advantage of our dispersed wax compared to AA's soluble wax, so you'll actually have some wax and high tech polymers left behind when you're done. We don't expect that to repel dust, but it'll sure help to keep the finish looking real pretty!

I've used a little bit of AA stuff in the past (before I saw the light!!) - found it to be ok!!! Not in the same league as Megs stuff but it's not like it's THAT bad - actually preferred the 'car wash' to the 'wash & wax' - .......

Still got a half bottle of AA Wash & Wax myself....I have found a good use for it though - use with my foam gun attachment on my Gerni HP washer....great for a pre-soak!!! Don't add water, just fill the whole bottle with AA......comes out very slick!

Did pick up several bottles of Hyper Wash for $3 each recently, can't imagine how crazy that will be if I put that in the foam gun!!!!
