  • Gold Class Car Shampoo PH level?

    Sup guys,

I think this is the area to post this. But im in need of new car shampoo and want to try GC, because of the reviews and the price is great. Im debating on whether to purchase Adams Car Shampoo but if GC is PH Neutral, i minds well go with GC for its price! Can anyone tell me what the GC shampoo PH level is? Is it Neutral (7)?

    Thanks guys!

the point of a safe car wash is to have a nuetral ph level so that it does not strip wax

Isn't that what you want though? So that it doesn't take away that layer of protection? So is GC PH neutral?

      Sorry im a n00b

Can't go wrong with the GC wash, it's very gentle and a great product.

^ Oh ok, now it makes sense. You didn't say it HAS a neutral PH, you just told me the point why to have a neutral shampoo lol..

I have no idea if waxes/sealants even want a ph of 7? I dont know if that is the standard?

But Gold Class is definately top of the line....

The official MSDS shows that GC shampoo has a pH of 8.0 Which means that it's slightly alkaline. But then you mix it with lots of water so the resulting pH is probably different.

On a side note, remember that car shampoo works better when used with hot water. The reason has to be with thermal energy and moving molecules that help surfactants do their work better.

Re: Gold Class Car Shampoo PH level?

Quick question for the chemistry "nerds". If the PH of GC is 8, and its diluted with water, does the PH drop down to neutral/base or is it still a PH of 8?

Re: Gold Class Car Shampoo PH level?

Assuming no chemical reactions, the PH should be in between the two.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but if it were a completely neutral substance, it wouldn't do as good of a job cleaning vs. being at a pH level of 8? For example, using water vs. water and soap/APC/*insert cleaner* to clean something?

Yeah, that's right. Alkaline/basic and acidic substances clean better.

It'd be a great help to have some Meguiar's chemist participate in the forum, to explain things those of us who are curious about their products.

That's why household soap bars are made similarly. Although I wouldn't recommend it, if you taste the bar of soap, it will taste bitter, meaning it is alkaline. Soap + water cleans your body better than just water right? This is probably true for car soaps.

At least I now know those few hours I payed attention in chemistry paid off, lmao. Thanks for the confirmation on that guys!
