  • Will appreciate your comments on product combination

    Folks

I have a charcoal-grey Chrysler 300C with a clear coat on it, professionally applied on the new car. The car is 3 years old and the paint is in very good condition, no swirls or scratches, but obviously does not look as sharp as the day I bought the car. I don't think there is any need to use a clay bar - the surface is smooth, although not perfect, but I fear damanging the clear coat.

I'm spending my Xmas holiday doing some detailing work, and this is what I'm planning to do: wash with NXT Car Wash Extreme, apply NXT Tech Wax, apply Quik Detailer (exterior).

I was wondering if anyone could comment on:

    1) Would you consider any other product, in addition to or instead of?
    2) Should I apply more that one coat of NXT Tech Wax?
    3) Should I apply more than one coat of Quik Detailer?

Thank you so much from sunny Australia!!

    1. Wash - Good quality wash like Nxt, 2 buckets, quality towels/sponges, etc.

    2. Clay - Yes, clay.

From there, you could go 2 ways:

    3. Clean - SwirlX

    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

    5. Wax - Nxt 2.0

    OR:

    3. ColorX (ColorBoost)

    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0

    Then:

    5. Maintain - You would not need a Quick Detailer directly after waxing. Instead, use it for removing bird dropping, etc from the surface. Also, UQD or UQW are nice for after future washes when not doing a full detail.

Hi there, if you've never clayed, I would definately suggest it. You're not going to damage your paint by claying, if anything, if your car does need it, and you don't, you could cause marring and scratches by rubbing a not so clean surface when waxing. If you are doing this by hand, I would suggest two coats of wax, just to make sure you get uniform coverage and don't miss a spot. And, on the quik detailer, I've never seen much benefit from more than one coat of it. There are many links on the 5 step paint care cycle, you should give it a read. There is a lot of info you'd never really think of! Good luck with your detail!
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Sounds good. Thank you for your help!

I assume that this means that neither the clay bar nor SwirlX will damage the clear coat - is that correct?

Clay, SwirlX, ColorX are all clear-coat safe.

Of course apply the products with a clean, smooth foam applicator, or high quality cloth. Dont apply it with something rough/sharp, etc.

Yes that is correct. SwirlX is a cleaner and may actually yield a better shine/end result. If you have never clayed, you'll be amazed at the before/after. You'll wonder why you never did it before!

I agree. Listen to the others. IMHO one of the secrets to getting your car to look its best is Pre work. Claying is a important part of the prep.

You will not harm the clear following the above mentioned steps.
