  • ONR Before Automatic Wash?

I have heard rumors that spritzing some ONR on your car using it as somewhat of a pre-soak before going into an automatic carwash can help with getting that extra bit off? Anybody else heard of this? Anybody done this themselves? My car probably has about 3 inches of road salt on it right now and I am looking for an extra edge to help get it all off without having to go through twice.

I actually do it the other way around!

I rinse the car off real well at the car wash and then do an ONR wash in the garage at home.

That being said, I've never found ONR to be all that great of a cleaner and can't imagine it would help much.

Tomorrow before going to the office I'm heading to the spray it yourself wash pit and then at lunch time: ONR wash. I'll skip lunch, had too much holiday goodness....

i think it would be better the other way around

since the automatic washes always still leave dirt behind

this way the ONR will get the dirt the wash left behind

I tend to agree with RaskyR1. However, I do not think that it would hurt to use ONR prior to an automatic wash. However, I tend to use ONR to help clean the residue left from most auto-washes.

I have never tried it. However, I would try it the other way around. Since you have so much grime on your vehicle. I would count on the automatic wash to remove the majority, then do the onr to get rid of what is left over.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I meant using ONR as a pre-soak going in to the car wash and having the automatic car wash wash it off as well as the normal stuff. Not using ONR as a wash before the car wash. Again, this is just a myth I have no idea if it works as it sounds a little silly to me. Just thought I would check with the experts.

                Re: ONR Before Automatic Wash?

I slept in this morning, doh! So tomorrow I will take my bottle of ONR detail spray with me and do one side of my car before I spray it off. I will not use the car wash stuff, but will see if there is a difference with the rinse only. I will ONR wash during lunch hour. Will post pics; got to remember the camera, so I don't get one of these:

I doubt ONR is going to help much as a pre-soak. While the jets from the wash are not very good, I'd think they'd knock of the same amount of dirt regardless. It certainly would not hurt... I just don't think it will make much of a difference.

I'd say better to use it afterward.

I think you would have better luck pre-soaking it with a solution of cash wash soap and water than you would with ONR.

                      Re: ONR Before Automatic Wash?

OK; sorry for the delay. I have 19 month old twins and am very very busy at the office. As promised I did go to the spray it off place and did do one side of the car with ONR as pre-soak. I did passenger side of vehicle top to bottom, front to back. While product was dwelling on finish I wandered over to change making machine and got my $2 in quarters. I then rinsed off drivers side first followed of course by passenger side. I could see no real difference. Before:

I then headed home and took these before pulling in.

                      After:

I then did ONR wash followed by UQW. My small heater can only get my uninsulated
garage up to the upper 40's in freezing weather. One of my projects for the spring is
to insulate it and get a decent heater. Here's how it looked the next day while home
                      on my lunch hour:

The day I washed it was the last sunny day for a week. We had freezing fog, mist and gray skies for the next six days. We then had a couple nice sunny days followed by freezing rain. I'm getting a little sick of this @#$%^
                      winter.
