  • Purchasing G110V2

    Hello everyone,

First of all, I want to thank every single member of this community for making this forum such a gratifying learning experience. Although I have recently registered, this forum has been a daily part of me for a while now!

I figured it was about time I stepped in to ask questions, and hopefully provide support to others with my personal experiences.

    My first question is:

I've been doing paint correction jobs, mostly 3-stage, for the past 2 months using only a Makita rotary machine, and of course, a large variety of pads and products. As you may presume, each car I've done has taken me a minimum of 2 days to complete as I always aim for perfect results.

Do you guys think I should incorporate a G110V2 DA machine into my set of tools? What benefits (time efficiency-wise) could I obtain from it?

    Thanks in advance!

i would have to say yes, absolutely.

you dont HAVE to use the g110v2 for paint correction..if you are skilled with the rotary buffer and you are confident in your abilities and your results are good, why stop using it ? its nice to have a DA for other things though..it will speed up the amount of time you need to apply polishes/pure polishes and waxing will take you little to no time ! and also dont forget the g110v2 is much stronger now and has more torque and the cruise control is amazing..i've put a ton of pressure onto the head of the polisher, and it just keeps spinning at the same speed ! and believe me ive tried to get it to bog, it just wont bog. its an amazing tool. i 110% highly recommend it to anyone, even my mother

Hi Creativo, and welcome to MOL.

Why is it taking you at least two days to do a paint correction via rotary? Are you dealing with seriously messed up paint, are you using extremely mild product/pad combinations, or are you fighting holograms at the end? Even extremely particular detailers don't routinely take two days for this except maybe in cases where a special car is being prepped for a major show, etc. In those cases they make take even longer.

The G110v2 is an excellent tool and can make removal of holograms very straightforward. They're also great for routine swirl removal and usually don't pose the issue of product sling, potential trim damage, etc. Certainly a rotary can remove severe defects faster than a D/A can, but the D/A definitely has it's place in a detailer's toolbox.

        Re: Purchasing G110V2

Thanks for the prompt support guys!

It usually takes me about 2 days as I always try to achieve perfect results. Of course, 2 days including the time spent correcting the paint as well as the head and tail lights.

The reason why I ask if I should incorporate a G110V2 in my process is because I wonder if it would allow me to use my time more efficiently for the second and third stages (polishing and finishing). Would it be faster by DA than it would otherwise be by rotary?

        Again, thanks in advance!

          Re: Purchasing G110V2

Keep in mind the G110v2 is going to be a lot easier on your hands, arms, and body. Especially considering you are spending this much time on a vehicle. Lugging an 8-10 lb rotary buffer around a car can be quite a workout. Unless you are replacing your gym membership with your detailing work do yourself a favor and get a G110v2.

Not knocking a rotary buffer and it's importance in the detailing world, just pointing out that if you can make a job easier and safer why not go that route.
