  • repainted door, hood, and other parts of car

I have been living with this question for while now...

Lets suppose you own a car for the last 4 or 5 years, and someone just hit the car and you now have to go to the body shop and have it repainted.
Will the color of a painted door or hood match exactly the rest of the car, that has its original factory painted color?

I ask because it' s so hard to see a repainted door, hood, etc... that really gets the same color.. it may look the same but..

Normally the panels nearest to the repair are "blended" in, which is why you don't "see" it right away.

It really all comes down to the skill of the body shop and their paint guy. We've seen flawlessly matched collision damage, and we've seen repair work that looks like it was done by a toddler who hadn't quite yet learned his or her colors.

I just had that experience lately with my left front fender, which they replaced and refinished. I had it done at the collision center of the Ford dealer, so you would think if anyone could match the paint they could. But just looking at it, it is very close, but I can see a slight difference, that the newly painted part is whiter.

In their favor, there is no appreciable orange peel finish on the part they refinished, whereas the factory painted parts have a mild orange peel.

paintscratch.com is a good place for selling paint that matches your factory color. I used them to buy touch-up paint.
