  • Something to remove wax or contaminants

Hey so before I re-wax a car or.. after I polish using M205 what do I wipe down the car with? I've heard people say prep-sol but have a hard time finding it. Also people have said DC1 but.. i dont want to rub it in the whole car I just want to wipe it down so something "liquidy" would be awesome. What about Final Inspection for after M205? Will that affect how the wax bond to the paint?

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I found this and wanting to buy it.. but i'm not sure how safe/effective it is to use on paint. thought it was for a prepainting process or something.

Do you just want to remove some light dust before waxing, or are you looking for a final wipe to make sure you've removed all defects and that you aren't leaving any traces of the previous polish on the surface before waxing?

If you just want to remove light dust, then any mist & wipe detailer is fine and won't cause any bonding issues. Final Inspection, Last Touch, Quik Detailer, Ultimate Quik Detailer are all suitable for this.

If you want to make sure you've removed virtually all traces of polish/paint cleaner in order to critically inspect the surface prior to wax, then an IPA (isopropyl alcohol) wipe down should suffice. Generally this is a readily available isopropyl alcohol mixed 50/50 with plain water, misted onto the surface and wiped off just as you would with a quick detailer product.

A very cost effective method prior to waxing or the next step, is to simply wash the car (or area/panel) with your favorite Meg's car wash and rinse.

I agree with using the IPA at 50/50 with 91% IPA used.

              Oh okay thanks.

Pretty much summed it up. Do you recommend skipping this step and just going from M205 to M21?

Re: Something to remove wax or contaminants

If you need to check for defect removal, then do the IPA. If you got good results and are happy, then no need to remove the polishing oils.

Sometimes a person will do a test spot, use the IPA to verify the product/technique worked, and if so then just do the rest of the car with that product/technique, then wax.
