Re: What would happen if.. D/A waxes.. different pads
I would stick with the W9207 as it is the softest pad Megs has and is designed for LSP's. A W8207 can be used to apply wax but I would use a W9207 as it is the softest pad available.

I got them both, I am just curious to know if that would result in hazes or swirl marks, as a result of waxing with the yellow pad, you know I am a little too curious about things, and sometimes if I don' t ask I have the crazy idea of trying on my sister' s car and since my D/A should be here in a couple of days, I am very excited to know more and more about the pads with "N" products.
Re: What would happen if.. D/A waxes.. different pads
If I am using a aio and there are minor imperfections in the paint, I use a 8207. If I am applying a wax, I use a 9207 pad. Why create more work for yourself.

I got 2 black pads and 4 yellow pads to start with, just as Mike suggested, but the black pads are going to be here in a week or so, I' ll have to play with the yellow pads for a while.
The good news is that there in less than two weeks I' ll have everything I need (stuff that are not for sale in Brazil), D/A and lots of pads, swirl x, ultimate compound, clay bars, etc...
Is the cutting power of a G110v2 equipped with W7207 pad strong enough to make the D/A a dangerous tool as the rotary buffer?
Only under certain circumstances, but even then it's very, very rare. We have seen cases of people using a cutting pad on a D/A, at speed 6 and with a lot of pressure and paint damage has resulted. In almost all cases, however, they stayed in one place for quite a long time, and in almost all cases this happens on a painted urethane bumper cover. The paint on these flexible panels has a flex agent added to it so that the paint can flex and give without cracking in the event the panel flexes. There is something about either this flex agent or just the paint being on this surface that seems to cause potential adhesion issues, and what we see is a twisting of the paint where it actually breaks free or tears off the panel. Again, this is very rare and we only see it when people are getting very, very aggressive on these panels. Under normal conditions (recommended speed, pressure, pad, liquid, time) you shouldn't have a problem.
Overall, a D/A polisher is far, far safer than a rotary buffer.
When it comes to applying waxes we recommend the W9xxx series of pads. The idea here is that by the time you're ready to apply your wax the paint finish should be in the best possible condition, as defect free as possible (or desired). At this point you don't want to touch the paint with anything that could mar it, and that could very include the pad choice. Of course different paint systems can better tolerate this slightly more aggressive pad, but best practices would indicate use of a finishing pad for wax application.
Unless........... the wax is a cleaner wax of some kind like M66, D151, M06 etc and your intention is to do an all-in-one type process. Then you probably want the added aggressiveness of the W8xxx polishing pad to help with defect correction.

Re: What would happen if.. D/A waxes.. different pads
What about the very mild consumer cleaner wax? does it has the power to remove swirls when used with the D/A and a W8207 foam pad?
1 - If I do a complete detail, and use strong cleaners to finish the paint, there would be no need to use a cleaner wax, right? Because I already accomplished what I wanted with the cleaners and now I just want to use pure polishes.
2 - What if the cleaner was 205? If I am going to use 205 after Ultimate Compound, would I use the black finishing pad or the yellow polishing pad with 205?
3 - Now let' s say it has been two months since I did that complete detail, and now I want to apply cleaner wax and NXT 2.0 and M26.. so i' d use black foam pads to apply the pure polishes, but what about the cleaner wax, which pad to use in this scenario?
Re: What would happen if.. D/A waxes.. different pads
My simple answer. I use the W8207 polishing pad to apply everything including NXT 2.0 and ColorX. I've done it this way for a darn long time with no problems.
What happens if you apply NXT 2.0 or M26 on the car using a W8207 polishing pad?
What would be the different in practice btw that and the W9207?
Congrats on getting the v2 shortly. I know you will love it!
My understanding is there are multiple factors that determine the cut of what you are doing. You can kick the cut up by going to a more aggressive pad or a more aggressive product, more pressure, or a more aggressive machine like a rotary, and so forth.
So if you put a pure sealer/polish like NXT 2.0 on with a polishing pad, you are just upping the cut and the aggressiveness a bit, maybe to no more than applying a cleaner wax by hand or with a finishing pad.
You know how it is preferable to use the least aggressive method you can, so ideally you should wait for the finishing pad, but if this is all you have for now, I would just apply only light pressure, low setting, don't make more passes than you need to, and you'll be fine.
Oh and since I need to wait another week to get the black pads, I' ll just use cleaners and remove those swirls of a car here this weekend! I can wax by hand, xD
