  • foam pad and the DA vs SMAT

I know I can use similar products on the same foam pad, like swirl x and ultimate compound, but what about swirl x followed by M83? I don' t want to use a foam pad exclusively to M83, since it is the only compound that I have that utilize the diminishes abrasives, and I just want to do a test spot to compare it side by side with swirl x..

Ultimate Compound is a cleaner only, SwirlX is a cleaner/polish as is M83 dual action cleaner/polish

If the pad has been washed and is clean then interchanging products is OK. But if you want to do a couple of test spots to see how two different products perform on a car, do not use Product A and Product B on the same pad, one right after the other. You will need a fresh pad for both in order for the comparison to be accurate.

In all honesty, if you use two pads for this side by side test and end up selecting, say, SwirlX over M83 you don't have to set the M83 pad completely aside until you wash it. You can clear that pad of M83 as best as possible and then set that pad aside while you work with the SwirlX pad. This will give it some time to dry a bit at which time you can brush it off and use it with the SwirlX. While certainly not ideal, it will minimize cross contamination. If you have a very limited number of pads and therefore not a lot of choice in the matter, this little bit of cross contamination is likely better than trying to fight a loaded pad all the way around the car.

Pads and towels are two things you almost can't have too many of, just for this type of situation.

Right now I have one w8006 and three w8207, but I used one of the w8207 with Cleaner Wax, and the w8006 with Swirl X (and this one can' t be machine washed), that leaves me with two extra w8207 pads.

The thing is, you know how hard (and expensive) it is to get Swirl X and Ultimate Compound here, and I don' t want to waste it on the two cars that I believe would be better suited with Ultimate Compound, and since it won' t be here until next week or so, I' ve been dying to do test spots and cleaner waxing, just to get a little practice with the D/A.
