  • Can polishing really be made easy?

After yesterdays escapade which was the most trickiest honda CRV ( jap paint and was a pain, confusing )
I am looking at faster and more basic alternatives and have come across 2 possibilities.
One being 105 and 205 2 polishes thats it!
Or the solo system, 1 polish thats the lot!!!

    I have at present:

Menzerna power gloss, power finish and PO106fa
    Meguiars #83 and #84
    Fareclae G3 and G10
    3M finnesse-it and ultrafina
    Poorboys world ssr1, 2, 2.5 and 3
    Dodo juice lime prime
    Valetpro achiles prep
Various pads ranging from 3M, lake country and so on

Has anyone used the solo system and how effective is it?

I hear plenty about 105 and 205 but the solo system seems to be one that isnt spoke of yet would be the simplest alternative.
I know majority have there own set ups where they will say 3M is best, menzerna is best etc but everyone works differently and one mans salt is another mans sugar so to speak.

Any info on the 105/205 and solo system would be most appreciated.

The M86 Solo System is specially designed for use on fresh paint, not cured paint.

M105/M205 is also designed for fresh paint but can work wonders on cured paint. I am sure M86 would also do great as I have heard that it can but its specific purpose was to allow paint shops to use one product to cut and polish instead of several products.

I spoke to Dom at meguiars uk and he said I can always pop down there and have a test play with the kit, just wanted to outsider opinions on it.
From what ive heard, it takes a little time to get your head round the kit but once you do its well worth it.

I would certainly wait for a better answer....

but #105 and #205 would cover most needs, new or fresh paint.

I did not check your previous posts, but would ask how you were applying the products, and materials, etc....

Ideally, #105 or #205 would finish good to wax on most surfaces.

While So1o was indeed designed for use on fresh paint, we have seen many instances of people getting fantastic results on cured paint. It's sort of like how M105 was designed to be used with a rotary buffer/wool pad to pull 1000 grit sanding marks but everybody loves using it on a D/A to remove light swirls.

If the Meguiar's UK folks are offering you the chance to come down and play with some first, you should jump all over that!

Keep in mind, however, that nothing on the market is going to be the perfect solution on all paint systems. On plenty of very soft paint (and this seems to be fairly common on certain Japanese models) M105 is probably total overkill, and on some badly dried out paint M105 may not behave the way you expect it to. Yes, even M105 has its limitations.

I think I may just have to get the solo system and see what it can do.
If the polish doesnt work I can still make use of the pads and plate.
The system seems to tick many boxes as I use rotary so much and also use wool pads a lot when cutting so understand the principal to some extent.
I can always wait with baited breath for the 8oz 105 and 205 to come out and trial run.
