  • Why...

is my pads getting into this condition. Too much pressure, favoring pressure on one side vs the other? I just brought all new pads and am throwing these and the other worn out ones in the trash. Could it be my backing plate?

    Many Thanks:

Have you put them in the wash at all?

Those look like the older pads, that aren't meant to be thrown in the wash.

Nope, never in the washing machine. The only way I clean my pads is to hose them off with a jet stream from the garden hose(only on the outside).

Are you snagging on something, like a trim piece?

My truck is completely debaged, but I see your point. Sometimes my 7424 does slow down a bit when going into certain spots. So, it is possible that the backing plate velcro is tearing up the foam.

I think you may be pressing too hard, and the backing plate looks to be tearing into the back of the pad.

Which backing plate have you been using?

Can't they be glued back together? Anybody try this?

Gluing likely will not work because it simply doesn't do well bonding to the said materials, plus, it creates a balance issue which may cause the pad to warp and pull even more.

Your backing plate is too large.

                      Re: Why...

It really looks like too much pressure was being used. When this happens, the backing plate will tend to slice into the pad.

Also, be sure to let the pads dry out before polishing with them again. The hollow center indicates that the pad was over saturated and then used.

                        Simply too much pressure.

Another vote for too much pressure.

We would like to know which backing plate you're using with these pads, but pressure really does seem to be the culprit here. The edge of the backing plate looks to quite literally be cutting into the back of the pad, as many others have noted here already. Are you routinely running the tool at speed 6 as well?
