  • How do you store your sheepskin wash mitt?

    Hi!

How do you store your sheepskin wash mitt?

Until now I have had a genuine one and been very happy with it. But yesterday I had to throw it out, because it completely felt apart A lot of the hairs just came right off!

Last time I used it was three weeks ago and it worked just fine then. I remember noticeing yesterday, that it was still "wet" when I took it out. I had used a new closed plastikbox for the storage, so wonder if that is the reason why it felt apart?

Do you let your sheepskin wash mitts dry or do you keep them "wet"?

    Any thoughts are welcome!

    Thanks!

I rinse mine out and put it on a laundry drying rack to dry. I sometimes put a plastic coathanger into the cuff to keep it open so that it dries more completely. If you put them away wet, they can get mouldy and even rot.

I just hand it up and let it air dry. I haven't had any problems with that system yet

What I do is first rinse the mitt thoroughly to remove any soap residue. Next I wring out as much water as possible and use an some compressed air or the blower port on my shop vac and dry the hairs on the outside. After that I turn it inside out and allow to air dry.

I dry the outside so there is little to no moisture inside the mitt when I flip it inside out. You do no want to keep them wet or damp as mold/bacteria can start to grow. Also prolonged "soaking" could weaken the fiber and loosen the bonds on the mitt. It is after all natural sheep's skin.

It remaining wet is what caused it to fall apart. They need to be stored completely dried.

I wring them out and then hang using a folded up metal clothes hanger (bend center of bottom span in and up toward hook). I insert this "W" shaped form into the center of the mitt and then hang on a shelf edge. This allows the interior to dry completely. I have not had any issues with the mitt failing apart.

Rinse it well, roll it up in an ultra absorbing towel, hang up on the rack to dry and then it goes back in the storage cabinet.
