  • Which pads do I need?

Sorry everyone, but I am new here and to trying to detail my car the professional way.

I recently purchased a new black Dodge Challenger and have noticed it has cobweb scratches. I know the car has sat on the dealer's lot for the past year in all of the elements.

My initial purchase of products include the Meguiar's dual action polisher and the items listed in the Meguiar's 5 step paint care cycle video. These include the Gold Class car wash, the Meguiar Clay bar kit, Ultimate Compound, Deep Crystal Polish, and the NXT 2.0 wax.

Due to my inexperience, which pads (buffing and/or polishing pad) should I use to apply the Ultimate Compound, the polish, and the wax?

Thanks and if there are any other products or steps I should follow for my first wax job, please feel free to let me know.

    Thanks!

Thank you very much...that is a very good summary...

By the way, I forgot to ask in the first post which brick and mortar store sells these pads. I have been to Autozone, OReilly's, Target, Walmart, Westlake Ace Hardware so far and none have them. Do I need to order them online?

Can anyone elaborate as to what is the difference between W8227 and W8006?!

Different size of the same pad?

Unfortunately you won't find the pads for the G110v2 (or any D/A polisher) at your typical auto parts store. You need to find an auto body supply store (typically known as a PBE store) near you. Check out www.meguiars.com/dealerlocator for more info. Worst case scenario you'll have to order online.

The Wx207 pads are our newest Soft Buff 2.0 pads. All of the new 2.0 pads have a laminated hook & loop attachment rather than the old glued on version. They are also recessed on the back so that our W68DA backing plate drops right into the center for easy fitment. The new pads are also machine washable whereas the older pads are not. Of course, the newer pads are also 7" diameter instead of the 6" diameter of the previous pads.

W7207 vs W7006: the foam construction is slightly different on the W7207, allowing it to hold it's shape and structure longer, providing more uniform cut over the life of the pad.

W8207 vs W8006: no change in foam

W9207 vs W9006: new black foam is slightly softer than the older tan foam, addressing a sometime issue of skipping when used with a rotary buffer only.

By the way, I forgot to ask whether the polishing pads (W8207) and the finishing pads (W9207) have velcro backing. My new Meguiars dual action polisher has a 6 inch backing plate with velcro. I was planning on purchasing the 7" pads or would the 6.5" be better for this tool?

Re: Which pads do I need?

What's a good number of pads for a rookie to buy? I have 3 cars, but it's extremely unlikely that I'll be doing more than 1 on a typical weekend. However, I figured that one of each Burg./Yel./Blk. plus a spare would be enough. Do you guys agree?

I hope so, because ADS sells a kit of the DA and your choice of any 6 pads

...never mind, I did some more reading and found that Burgundy pads aren't really used much, except for wax removal using a mf bonnet.

Since the MFB6's are OOS @ ADS, I settled for the G110V2 Express Kit, which comes with a pair of yellow and a black pad. If I get tired of pulling Tech Wax 2.0 off by hand, then I'll eventually buy a burgundy pad and some bonnets.

This might be a noob question, but can the 6.5" foam pads (such as the W8006) be used with the stock g110v2 backing plate?

Yes, 6.5" pads can be used with both 5" and 6" backing plates.
