I thought I would start a thread on those products sold by Meguiar's that you cannot, or at least do not, want to live without.
Two Meguiar's products have become virtually indispensable to me. I'm sure I could find equivalent products sold by other companies, but these work so well for me that I am just not tempted. Please remember that I am not a professional. I'm just an enthusiast who details regularly his two personal vehicles.
First indispensable product: M20 Polymer Sealant. I know this will come as a shock to most readers, but the more I use M20 the more I am impressed. I have found that for my black S2K water spotting is my most formidable enemy. If I don't wash my car almost immediately after it gets rained upon (and often I cannot or just don't want to) I end up with water spots on my paint. These spots seem to be resistant to paint cleaners like Four Star's Ultimate Pre-wax Cleanser, yet M20 is often able to remove them, as well as stains and embedded dirt.
M20 brings clarity to the paint and leaves a glossy and slick finish. I cannot speak to durability--though a few MOL members, I know, use it as their winter wax. I always top it with my wax flavor of the month. M20 is also one of the easiest liquid waxes I have used. After allowing it to dry, it buffs off regularly; and I have never had any problems with streaking or cloudiness. In any case, I find I am using it frequently now in my regular detailing of Luthien. Rarely am I able simply to apply a fresh coat of wax after, say, a month's time. The paint needs to be cleaned; water spots need to be removed. M20 accomplishes this for me and lays down a layer of protection.
Second indispensable product: Ultimate Compound. I know that professionals prefer the power of M105, but for an amateur like myself, Ultimate Compound is much more practical. When applied with a polishing pad and G110, I am able to remove most of my swirls. UC usually leaves the paint LSP-ready, but I invariably finish off with M205 and a finishing pad. Unlike M105, Ultimate Compound does not dust (or at least not nearly as much) and it has a longer working time, which I like. And because it shares 105's SMAT technology, I do not need to worry about breaking down the abrasives. I work it until I don't want to work it any longer.
