  • After reading and asking so many questions, here is my run down!!

    First of all,

I would like to give a big thanks to all who answered my questions... and to all members here...

The how-to threads are very helpful.

Here is a 2 day run down for my first DA detail.

    Subject:
    1993 VW Polo (RED)

    Tools I have:
    Dodo juice Buff daddy
1x 5.5inch Chemicalguys orange medium cutting pad
1x 5.5inch Chemicalguys white polishing pad
1x 5.5inch Chemicalguys blacking finishing pad
1x 4inch LakeCountry orange medium cutting pad
1x 4inch LakeCountry white polishing pad
1x 4inch LakeCountry blacking finishing pad
    smooth surface clay bar kit
cleaner wax from smooth surface clay kit
    UC
    swirlX

    Day 1:
wash with 2 buckets with grit guards
clay when its wet with smooth surface kit from top.
rinse and dry panel after clay.
if I have time I would start polishing.
if required, i would do swirlX on head-light and tail-light as well.

    Day 2:

    situation 1
    if it is after clay.
I would use UQD to clean each section before I polish.
start with UC with medium cutting pad, test spot from lighter to higher pressure. (I only have 1 pad)
if required, I would do swirlX with polishing pad
and the follow with cleaner wax
why not with cleaner wax from smooth surface clay kit with finishing pad
    and then gold class wax.

    situation 2
    if it is after polish.
I would use UQD to clean the polished area.
and the follow with cleaner wax
with cleaner wax from smooth surface clay kit with finishing pad
    and then gold class wax.

    Day 3
    clean with UQD,
then second coat of GC wax.

Please give me comments on the process above.

as this is my test subject, I do have 3 more cars to line up for the weekend.

they are all my family's car, so it will all be at my own risks.
Still I want the best of it...

here are the cars, and please if you have time, please give me your opinions... i think i would do the same process with the rest of the car.

    subject number 2:
    2004 black Skoda Octavia.

    subject number 3:
    1999 black BMW 316i

    subject number 4:
    1999 silver VW Passat TDI

I do the silver last, because it is a more difficult color.
but on the other hand, swirls are more difficult to spot.

so if ya'll think subjust number 4 should place before others, please say so.

for all who are going to help.

I just want the best for the car and make them have the shine that they should have. so that they can be a proud car driving down the road

will check in here often and ask more questions based on reply.

    thanks again
    Steve

Your plan sounds good I hope you have a lot a MF towels
but remember if your gonna clay while the car is wet, make sure your in the shade so the water doesn't dry on you

I suggest you mask off the trim because UC will turn it white and cover the windows with news paper ( cause you might get splatter since this is your first time )

    Good Luck with Your Detail!

Re: After reading and asking so many questions, here is my run down!!

I went into a little problem...
I don't know that 1993 VW polo is on single stage paint.
I clayed it and some color comes off, so I was ready to polish single stage paint.

However, it started to rain, so I pull the car back to the garage.
And come back to seek for some advices.

I did a test spot. worked wonder UC with 5.5inch HEX chemicalguys orange pad.
I did 2 passes on speed 2 spreading.
and then 3 passes on speed 5 on polishing.

I will upload pictures in a minute.
mean time, please give me some advice on single stage paint.
what to do what not to do.

cleaning on the fly isn't really working...
a lot of color came off, but not really enough.
and if i wash and spin the wet pad, can i continue to polish?
please advice on that as well.

      thanks in advance.
      pictures will go up soon.

      Steve

Re: After reading and asking so many questions, here is my run down!!

What is the issue? I cannot tell from the picture, but I am assuming it does not have the clarity you were looking for, like it is hazed over?

If this is the case, you need to follow up with something less aggressive. Try a pass of Swirl X on a less aggressive pad, or if you don't have Swirl X you can even try to see if it will finish out with UC on a less aggressive pad.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
            Remove swirls my friends.

yah you can continue to buff after you wash and spin dry, ill usually press it against a towel to get off any remaining water in the pad... thats the main thing with single stage... just keep the pad clean so its always good to have a few extra on hand...
since your buffing on single stage paint you can also ad some meguiars #7 to add some oils back into the paint for that added gloss then top it off some some wax
your progress looks great, keep us informed!

Cleaning your pad on the fly is to get extra product off of the pad, it won't get the pad completely clean. You may go through a few pads while working on your car.

Thanks - Markito - for your advice.

                  To Andrew,
no I think it was clean enough, but i think i would try buffing with UC and orange pad combo but will less pressure and see what would happen.
because i want to use swirlX with light pressure to get a glossy finish.

and i only have one pad each, orange, white and black.
and it is a SS. how should i organize the pad and how to polish ss are the advice that I am seeking.

Thanks and looking forward to your advice again!
