  • Question about touch up paint spots...

    http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/pho...hp/photo/41072

Hey guys, I"m getting somewhat annoyed at the areas of my car that have touch up paint spots. Many of these spots were on the car when I first got it. I was wondering, is there a way to make them less noticeable? I don't want to fully remove them and expose the scratch or chip, but if there is a way to thin it down and make it blend in with the rest of the normal paint that would be great. Also about chip marks, I've seen some high end wax and polish products that claim to make a car's paint chip resistant after x number of coats. Is there any truth about such products? Do any of you all know of anything that can make a car's paint chip resistant? Thank you all for your time. Take care.

It appears as if the main issue is the color is not matching, correct?

Often times matching touch-up paint on metallic paints is next to, if not impossible. The way the flake was layed from a spray gun just can't be matched by brush - heck even trying to spray it again would be difficult to do.

Metallic makes it difficult because from one angle it may flash too light, and another angle makes it too dark... making it impossible to know what is right or wrong.

That said, it appears as if the touch-up paint is lighter than the surrounding paint in the pictures, adding a second coat *may* help with that.

Hello, if the second coat does not help, is there a way to thin down the spots or if worse comes to worse, a way to remove them?

It sounds to me like color matching is the problem. From what I hear automotivetouchup has the most exact color matches so I might be inclined to give them a try. automotivetouchup.com
