  • Overspray HELP!!!!!

I drive a 2010 Jeep Wrangler that is Red Rock in color (burgandy). The other day my Jeep got oversrpay from construction on the highway in SoCal. I have washed and clayed with no removal. This is what I have tried so far with no response. Scratch X, Swirl X, Ulitimate compound, and bug and tar remover. Nothing has worked except the edge of my finger nail. I have done around one headlight with my fingernail and I am not leaving scratches but it is the entire front of my Jeep and the windshield.

HELP!!! What have you all tired for this that has worked?

    Thanks,
    DDS

If it's paint overspray, and clay didn't pull it out, this would be my 2nd attack. I'd treat it with 1 min of Tar & Bug Remover soaking after I wet it down. Remove it with MF towel, rinse it off, wash the Jeep.

Really dont know what kind of overspray it is but I have tried the Tar and Bug Remover already and it seems like my fingernail is the only thing that works! Looks like I am going to have bleeding fingers tonight.

If it is paint overspray acetone will work. Spray the acetone on the overspray and rub it off with a clean towel. You'll probably have to work at it for a little while and you may still need to use your fingernail for the larger chunks of overspary, but with the acetone it will be a lot easier.

You do have to be careful though because the acetone can melt plastic pretty easily.

The Smooth Surface clay is pretty mild. You might want to try Meguiar's blue clay.

4000 grit sandpaper from Micro-Surface is a must have for overspray and fallout. Eats up 99% of contaminants without leaving a heavy scratch. Most times a medium polish will clear it out. This will remove it from the paint, glass and chrome, but anything porrus or plastic (raw) you'll be out of luck. You can try a solvent, but many times it will cause harm. Either live with it or call your insurance company to initiate a comprehensive claim.

I would also give the Blue (mild) clay a try. It has done wonders for me in regards to removing over spray.

                    +1 with above......

or work up least aggressive to most aggressive....

                    You could try the following

                    1) Clay Magic - Blue - Mild

                    2) Clay Magic - Red - Medium

                    3) 4000grit as stated above, I have used the Mirka Abralon, they go as fine as #4000. They’re typically used with a pneumatic or electric DA sander but they can also be used by hand. The cloth and foam construction allows water to flow through them. Follow up with a thorough polishing, then wax or seal last.

I had paint overspray on my car from a water tower. The Megs red agressive clay with Final Inspection took it right off without any harm to the paint (it's black cc, so I would have noticed).

If you are dealing with road paint, you may want to use the bug & tar remover and some plastic razor blades to help loosen that stuff up. It will save your fingernails....

                          Re: Overspray HELP!!!!!

you guys are talking color sanding, red clay bars etc . .
all these require follow up with a foam pad buffer ...multi stage buffing
or the finish will be dulled out . .. he probably has epoxy overspray
good luck with that . ..seriously your best bet is to mix
red & blue (50/50) clay magic bars-then hand clay - then hand wax after

meguiars clay bar is design for the retail customer , but not enough grit
to remove epoxy overspray, no way . . solvents / bug and tar remover
would be a joke too . . really it needs 6-7 various gentle steps to
safely removel epoxy overspray , but it can be done without harming
                          the finish . . 1 - 2 steps won't cut it on epoxy & urethane paints
