  • Quick Detailer before Waxing?

I'm trying to get my truck prepped for the winter here in Missouri. Yesterday afternoon I washed my truck with Gold Class car wash, dried, then waxed with cleaner wax. I want to apply a layer of carnuba wax today, but the truck has been outside all day and has accumulated some dust (lawn was mowed at the office today).

Would I be ok to wipe the truck down with quick detailer today and then applying carnuba wax, or do I need to do a full wash again before waxing?

Also, how many coats of carnuba wax should I layer?

The QD is good for light dust.... it is hard to tell where the cut off may be.

At least one coat... can do 2 or 3 if you like.

If your wanting more protection, go over it with NXT 2.0 as it is a sealant. Sealants offer better protection than a carnauba wax. But they both have their trade offs.

      NXT 2.0 is a sealant
Gold class carnauba plus is a traditional carnauba wax

yes u can use a quik detailer before waxing but only for removing light dust or bird bombs, if the car is really dirty u need to wash it again, but if the car just sat outside for a day you should only have light dust and it would be fine to use quik detailer then wax your car, like smack said if you want longer lasting protection use a synthetic wax like nxt2.0, which quik detailer r you using, ultimate quik detailer or quik detailer, not that it matters both r for light dustin, its just that UQD has more lubricity and has hydrophobic polymers like nxt2.0 has and just in case you didnt know quik detailer is the only quik detailer you can use for claying.

Yes, it would be okay to give the vehicle a qd, before waxing. I have done it in the past also.

Thanks for the info. I had already started my wax job before reading the suggestions about NXT instead of carnuba. I guess I will just go buy a bottle of NXT and put on a coat of that tomorrow. That would be cleaner wax, carnuba, NXT... In that order.

After reading the info from the link to autogeek, I may follow the NXT with another coat of carnuba. It's a deep red colored truck, and the carnuba really makes it look nice.

Oh, and I'm using just quick detailer, not UQD. I found the big bottles of QD on sale a few months ago, so I bought several. That's the only reason I went with it over UQD- price

The NXT kind of gives a plastic looking coating to the descriminating eye. But a follow up with GCCP will give great depth to the NXT.

Ok, for all that recommended NXT 2.0.... I put a coat on my wife's 2006 silver Honda odyssey. It looked ok immediately after, but honestly I wasn't impressed. Well this morning I went out to the garage to take a look after the 12 hour hardening and WOW! It's like it transformed overnight. It was much glossier and much smoother than it was last night. So I went ahead and put on a second coat this morning. I am a huge fan of this stuff now. Next time I wash my truck I'm putting a couple of coats of this stuff on it too.

                    Re: Quick Detailer before Waxing?

If you've got a california duster, I'd go over it once or twice around the vehicle before using a detailing product and a towel. MF towels are more efficient when they're clean. If they're dirty, they'll make swirl marks as bad as anything else. Counterproductive. The devil is in the details.

hopefully I can ask a few questions I have in this thread, I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I washed, clayed, polished, and waxed my car a few days ago, its a Black Prelude, I used Meg. Gold Class as my wax. I wanted to apply another 2 coats of wax, should I use Gold Class or get some NXT2.0?
How long does a coat of wax take to cure?

                        Re: Quick Detailer before Waxing?

You will always want to put a sealant on BEFORE a carnauba wax so it bonds to the paint. If you try putting it on after then it will not bond properly.
