  • Tips on how to use NXT Tech Wax?

So I'm pretty new to detailing, and though I've got the basics down, I'm feeling apprehensive about waxing. My car is dark red, 2008, and the paint is in pretty good shape. My main concern right now is protection (I live in Michigan--the winters are rough), and I'd like to maintain the car's deep shine, of course.

I've done a little research and I've decided
NXT Tech Wax sounds like my best bet. I realize it's actually a paint sealer, which from what I've read, will give longer-lasting protection than traditional natural wax. So now, I'm looking for tips on how to get the best results. Should I follow the directions on the label, which say to apply it to the entire car and then wipe it off, or should I do one section at a time? Also, how long do I have to wait if I want to apply another layer? I've heard that applying a second layer will give a deeper shine.

Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks to you all

Applying multiple layers won't really enhance the shine...multiple layers is more to guarantee full coverage.

Apply it very thin, wait until dry, remove.

    It's that simple.

Definitely read the directions but it's the same thing if you've used any wax at all. Just remember to apply VERY THIN coats. It's just a waste if you apply a thick coat. In addition, it'll be a PITA to remove.

I would apply the wax to the entire car. After, do a swipe test to see if the wax has already dried. Once it's dry, you can buff it off. Here's a thread on how to do the swipe test: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...ght=swipe+test

Applying a second coat will ensure a more even coverage. It won't enhance the gloss or anything like that.

Apply a thin coat, very thin to the entire car. Let it dry then remove. The longer you can wait to apply the second coat the better. Having said that , if you can wait 20-30 minutes between coats, that will do.

I recently detailed our 2 Hondas, namely a new CRV and a 2006 Pilot both black in color. After claying both, I applied a coat of polish and then NXT wax. I did 2 coats of wax about an hour between coats. Unbelievable results. I then decided to apply a 3rd coat of NXT. There was definitely an improvement with the 2nd and 3rd coats. Hope that helps!

As others have mentioned you want a very thin coat of product applied to all painted surfaces of the car and then allow it to dry fully before wipe off.

Check out the link to the swipe test provided by Marc08EX, and also the 5 Step Paint Care Cycle, for some images of what a properly thin coat of wax is. It is very important that you not over use the product and that you give it plenty of drying time - it will actually wipe off easier if you let it dry a bit longer than you think you should rather than trying to remove it too soon. Sounds crazy, but it's true.

For a little extra tip on applying the product really thin, check out this thread.
