  • Not sure what to do

Good morning to all, i am using UC with a terry cotton pad by hand to remove the swirl marks on my car, the question i have is that i have applied about 4 applications and most of the swirl marks are gone, i know im not going to get them all out, but when i look at in the sun there are some wavy marks like from the sun if that makes any sense, no pics to show what im talking about, should i use a foam pad to try to fix this or should i get something that is not as abrasive....

Another question i have is Orielly's sells a 6" foam pad that attaches to a drill will that be any good to use, i dont have the funds to purchase a DA

Re: Not sure what to do

try the yellow foam applicator pad, gently , in the shade, only one small area a time. And maybe you need to try a less aggressive product (like swirlX) to cure the haze, and remember, do it gently, too much passion may actually put new swirls on the paint. In my case, UC is abit too aggressive for my paint (almost identical problem as yours)

if it's just the light swirls you been trying to get rid of, try swirlX first, give it 2 or 3 gental passes using a foam pad, then finish up with 1 or 2 passes of mild polishing wax to bring back the shine.

Sounds like what you are seeing may be holograms, but it's difficult to tell without pics. Don't know how bad your swirls were, but UC with a terry cloth applicator can be a pretty aggressive combination depending on your technique and paint.

You might want to try a foam applicator and a finishing polish (ex., M205) to see if that takes care of the problem. Do a small test area first and try varying amounts of pressure to see what works best to get the results you want. If this combo doesn't work and you need more cut, you could try an MF applicator and M205 (although I am not a fan of MF applicators on exteriors) or a foam pad and a polish with a little more cut like SwirlX.

Don't have any experience with drill mounted polishing pads so I really can't offer any help with that.

      Good luck.

        Utimate Compound questio

As mentioned many times on this forum, UC needs to be worked for a period of time cause of the oils in it...
The question i have is since there is some kind of oil, when you wipe it off with a MF towel does it remove all of the oil ?
Do you have to wash the car before you wax it ?
Will it be ok to just wax it without washing it after applying UC ?

If you want to make sure the oil is gone, (removing all the residue), you could spray a little glass cleaner on and wipe off. Yes, the towel should remove any residue.

You would not need to waash first, though if you were working over a few days, you may want to QD the dust off.

I think the foam would be a good option for the 'final' application.

And can always apply another application in the future some other time.
