  • possible to remove scratches from glass?

    hi,

i was thinking is it possible to remove scratches with a blemish remover like UC from glass, i mean windscreen.

Also when applying wax by DA is there a need to clean pad on fly, as i would think that wax is only applied a few times to pad, as it is written in DA tips guide, on mainpage.

mate i asked the same quetion lol. i'm quite sure that UC is not aggressive enough to bite glass, you'll need some specialized glass polishing paste and lots of water to cool the surface otherwise it may overheat and crack .... i already called a few detailer shops and they say it's tedious, time consuming and can't guarantee a good result, so they won't do it...

now my options list is getting shorter and shorter.. i'll try my car dealer tomorrow and see if they can polish it for me. otherwise i'll seriously consider putting a brick through and call for insurance...

sure, why not? i always apply wax by hand (+ foam applicator pad) .

If you r using some expensive 100%carnauba wax, you can even do it with bare hands-- the coat is more even, thinner and won't scratch the paint at all. not sure about light covers though, because most covers nowdays r made of plastic, maybe you are better off using those water repellant spray/ windscreen cleaner.

Nope...UC will not remove scratches. It will remove waterspots. Cerium Oxide is the only thing that will remove glass scratches and it has to be done by a pro.

No need to clean pad on the fly when waxing. I wax my lights everytime. And not to knock T_M_Bs comment about applying wax by hand but a DA will apply a much more even, thinner coat than your hands could, and the pads won't scratch your paint either. JMHO anyway!

cheers, so no need to clean pad on fly then, how many times do you reckon i should pour wax onto pad, something like one pouring of wax per each half?

Glass is 10 times harder than car paint. Special glass cutting pads are needed to remove any defects. In many cases it's not possible to fully cure glass problems. Rotary or DA polisher is necessary.

I bought a glass scratch repair kit from ADS. I have used it a couple of times with great success. I highly recommend it.
