  • What do you guys do if it rains?

I just finishing waxing my black car and the forecast is calling for rain this afternoon. I'd like to keep the car looking the way it does at least for a couple of days.
If I get caught in the rain what should I do afterwards when I get home? ex. dry it, quik detailer it, etc.

If it just gets wet, without much mud, etc kicked onto it, you can QD and dry.

Quik Detailer and Quik Wax should help you keep your vehicle in show car condition. Using car duster and two seperate microfiber towels: one for spreading product and one for drying it, should prevent swirls.

I know that polymers in Tech Wax 2.0 fully bond within 12 hours. Carnauba is faster.

I picked up a California Duster, preped it up on newspaper for a week or so, boy was it full of oil, it soiled through 20 pieces of newspaper.
I read that my 2000 Black Honda Prelude has delicate paint, I'm abit hesitate to use the CD, I don't want to cause any more swirls/scratches then it already has. I guess I'll give it a try.
That guy in the video who is using the duster, in my opinion, is wiping way to fast and aggressively.
Shouldn't the fibers be just touching the paint surface?

I applied 3 coats of NXT and 2 coats of Gold Class in a 4 day period.

man that's FIVE layers of wax you applied... didn't you get wax build ups which hazes the paint?

well, if there's a rain comming, i'd leave the recently waxed/washed car in garage and drive the 'dirty' one instead.. btw, you can always use QD spray after rainshower.

That's actually true that you applied too many layers of wax. What happens is that after 2-3 layers you just remove wax because it can't stick to the surface anymore. Simply most of the product goes back to your towel. And you dull paint, as mentioned, instead of giving it more gloss. The same thing can happen if just keep spraying Quik Wax on your paint.
When you use Quik Detailer make sure you use two seperate towels and lubricate the surface enough. When you pick up dirt with first towel use gentle pressure and you should finish swirl free. Good quality towels are a must, like Meg's Supreme Shine or Ultimate Wipe.

The paint looks fine, no haze.
Gold Class added a bit more gloss to it as compared to NXT.

                      Beauty
Will more coats of a product make a finish deeper, darker, and wetter looking with each additional application?
                      In a word: Possibly
Generally speaking, when trying to take your car's finish to its maximum potential for clarity, gloss, shine and depth of color, there comes a point, or a plateau, that you will reach whereupon additional applications of either polish or wax will not increase the results of any of those categories. Of course, you are more apt to reach this plateau if your skill level is high and if the quality of your products is also very high.
These assumptions also assume that the surface in question is on
                      • A brand new car
                      • A car with a brand new paint job
                      • An older car whose finish has been well maintained and is in excellent condition
                      • An older car whose finish has been professional restored to excellent condition
If any of the above holds true, then you will most certainly hit the wall, so to speak, reaching that plateau of perfection whereby further applications will not improve the results of the previously applied coating. Your finish will have reached its maximum potential in appearance value.
After time goes by and this plateau you have previously reached begins to diminish, you can restore the paint to it's maximum potential again, quickly and easily by simply applying a new coat of the right wax or polish. This maintenance procedure will only act to restore the finish back to it's maximum potential and shouldn't be positioned, or confused with making your surface deeper, darker, shinier, etc. than it's maximum potential.
Once you hit 100% max potential, (or that plateau), it's time to stand back and admire the results, not continue to apply more and more coats.
Special Note: Ideas suggesting that repeated applications of a product will continue to increase optic clarity and gloss and protection are misleading you and your own common sense should enable you to understand that a finish, whether black, red, single-stage, clear coat, etc. has a limit to how perfect it can become.

A surface, such as an automotive paint, can only hold so much product before all you're doing is removing all subsequent coatings applied to the surface.
That is to say, after the first, second and in some cases a third application/coating, any more product applied to the surface is merely removed when you wipe the excess off after waiting for the product to cure.
At this point you've reached a plateau (or limit), as to how much wax (natural or synthetic) a surface can hold. Once you reach this plateau, all further applications of wax simply become excess that will be removed (and thus wasted), during wipe-off because it has nowhere to attach and layer.

Re: What do you guys do if it rains?

If you had the time, dedication, and will to apply 5 coats of wax in 4 days, I don't think you have anything to worry about detail-wise regardless of whether or not it rains. You're asking really a subjective question. What do you want to do after it rains? Do you have the time to QD it? Do you want to QD it?

I mean, theoretically, you could wash it again but you may not want to. It's really up to you, just know this: Any time there's more than a light dust on the car, you'd best wait to wash than QD or else you risk creating swirls.

It's one thing if your car sits in the rain just after it was waxed. It's a completely different story if you have DRIVEN in the rain. If you don't want to mar your paint, wash it.

well if i drive my car through the rain, mud and dirt simply blasts its way onto the fat...um, how do i say it, rear bumper, that fuzzy looking rear wheel arch and side skirts. I think it's a design flaw of some sort, where style kicked function out of the door. Thats why i always avoid driving my car in the rain...

My friend's merc CLS got the similar problem and it's even worse, mud and small stones gets blasted directly onto the rear wheel arch (and those curved, fat rear passenger doors) and scratches the paint.

When I'm done washing and qd'ing or spray waxing the car, I don't like to touch it until the next wash.
