  • Faded Black Plastic Bumper / Fender

I recently purchased a new oem black plastic (textured) front bumper for my 86 Honda Civic. The bumper is obviously many years old although it's new and boxed.

The trouble is that I cannot get a good finish with the plastic. It always ends up with a matt finish with a very slight sheen and is patchy. The old bumper used to come up with a brilliant shine with most bumper cleaning products.

The only thing I can think of is that it something to do with the age of the plastic? Please could someone recommend a product for this type of problem?

    cheers

I use Mothers Back to Black on faded black/gray plastic parts. It works pretty well.

      You could use two products:
      1. Gold Class Trim Detailer,
      2. Ultimate Protectant.
      They both should finish good.

Give it a thorough cleaning with some APC. Then apply some Ultimate Protectorant. Should come out looking great.

I agree here. But if that thing was supposed to be new and it wasn't, can you take it back!? Sounds like you got ripped off if that's the case!

Unfortunately new bumpers are not available here in the UK, even pattern bumpers are not available. I was luck to find this one a honda dealer was selling off old stock on ebay. The bumper is definitely new and was still in the original honda packaging, but I think that the plastic has aged?

I recently working a beat up 3 yrs old car and like said the trim was getting that white junk all over the dark trim. I did a complete cleaning and still no diff. Once it started to dry, it looked like garbage.

I found a bottle of Aerospace 303 Trim treatment and some paper towels and about 5 minutes, I had the whole car looking nearly brand new and the trim looking dark and supple.
