  • How often should I wax my car

    Hi Everyone
I would like to ask this question and I know it depends where you live and weather conditions too. However, If I did polish and wax (complete process) and I'm washing my car every other week.
1- What products you recommend to use (QD or Next Gen Wax 2.0)? Can I use Next Gen Wax 2.0 everyother week.?

2- Or just use QD spray everyother week until I see it needs the complete process again.

Please advice-my car is black BMW 2008.

    Thanks
    Moheb

I would consider using UQW after each wash.

Then start to plan to re-do the process when the UQW seems to not apply/spread as nicely.

We would recommending waxing with NXT 2.0 four times a year and using UQD between washings to remove light dust and fingerprints. The wipe off experience of UQD can help you determine when it's time to wax again. Get a feel for how easily it wipes off from a fresh coat of wax, and when it becomes a bit trickier to wipe off that's a good indication that it's time for a fresh coat of NXT 2.0.

While you can use NXT 2.0 every other week, it really is overkill. You're better off using Ultimate Quik Wax after every wash instead of a full NXT application every couple of weeks.

Whoops... hi I'm overkill... I've used it 3 times in the past month alone. No wait...4. I have got the Deep Chrystal Carnauba Wax I haven't tried yet. Is this the same as NXT for fewer apps or can it be used like quik wax? In my defense, I've seen the beginnings of some swirls and one application hasn't been enoughs to eliminate them. This is why I've been doing multiple applications. I think this past one (I just finish doing 2 hours ago), may have taken the last bits out. I'm not sure since it got dark before I finished....It's fun to wax cars by porch light! ...Not

You can certainly do more if you like.

Wax really wont remove swirls, just hide them. Not sure what you mean by used like a spray wax, it is a liquid wax you would want to apply, let dry, then remove.

uhh...spray wax? I meant the quik wax mention by the admin. I know that the wax doesn't remove it. You'd have to go into the clear coat to do that. You only got to options to truly remove it, get a new application of clear coat by the auto body shop (which will sand down the existing) or buff/sand them out. Since swirls are a fact of life, it seems more plausible to hide them :P

Yeah, the Quick Wax will be a carnuba based spray wax, similar to the Deep Crystal Wax.

Follow the above advice. Wax 4 times a year. At least once a month go with the UWW. This should be fine.

NXT four times in one month? We're going to officially change your forum screen name to OverKill for that!

OK, a little comparison of the products mentioned thus far:
                  • DC Carnauba is a "pure wax" (meaning no cleaners and no polish) that combines carnauba with some other ingredients for easy application, removal and good gloss. An application of DC Carnauba is a "proper wax job", not a "booster", and therefore can be the only wax you apply if you so desire.
                  • NXT 2.0 is a "polish wax" and 100% synthetic, meaning it contains zero carnauba wax. As such it will protect better and last longer than a carnauba wax can. An application of NXT 2.0 is also considered a "proper wax job" so it needs nothing else on top of it. That said, plenty of people like to apply a carnauba over a synthetic - they want the protection of the synth but like the look of a carnauba.
                  • Quik Wax is a carnauba spray wax, but being a spray wax it's more of a maintenance or booster product. It is not a substitute for a proper wax job. It's also prone to staining trim since it dries white.
                  • Ultimate Quik Wax is sort of QW on steroids. It contains many of the same polymers that NXT does so it lasts a lot longer than QW, sheds water like a duck, and doesn't stain trim. As a booster product it's fantastic. For a spray wax it's amazing.

So, use the NXT 2.0 every couple of months and use UQW every time you wash the car. Heck, use it while drying the car - it works great that way.

Re: How often should I wax my car

Yes, yes, in my defense I didn't realize the NXT was so long lasting. I had stripped it twice anyways trying to get rid of the swirls with swirlx. I was trying to get back the mirror finish and it did the job at 4 applications. I don't see swirls on my car any more. I tried the deep crystal and was totally blown away. Until it rained the next day.... Such is life. So is the Deep crystal the same as quik wax as I can use it more often? I do alot of highway driving and there's construction going on everywhere. I find myself having to pull contaminants from the paint (namely tar and construction paint specs). That's why I want to find a wax that'll give a good shine that I can use more often since I'll constantly going back with the clay bar and wax cleaner to remove all the gunk that gets flung on my car.

DC Carnauba is a pure wax, meaning it contains no cleaners, so you can use it as often as you like. But NXT can also be used just as often if you want to as well. You may want to look into UQW for an easy to use spray wax with a good polymer load that is very durable - surprisingly so for a spray wax.
