  • clearcoated HWT RV wheels

Hi everyone , I did a mistake this morning with my new enclosed trailer HWT wheels , I remove the road abrasive without using any water and I this let small scratch all over my wheels, now I want to remove those scratch but I don't know if the wheels are aluminium , coated or both

I have the 06 model , I think that they are coated but I want to be sure , could you give me some info about how I could get them back to clean

    Thanks !

First off, as you said, you want to know if they are coated or bare metal and it's very easy to find out. On a clean wheel (at least use some quick detail spray and a microfiber towel to remove any light dust/dirt) apply some metal polish or even cleaner wax with a clean, dry, white terry cloth towel.

If the towel turns black as soot in a matter of seconds then you have bare metal. In that case you'd want to use a dedicated metal polish like Hot Rims Mag & Aluminum Polish to remove the fine scratches and bring up a very high shine. You can usually apply this with a clean terry towel for initial defect removal and then step down to a less aggressive applicator, like a foam wax applicator pad, for final polishing.

If the towel does not turn black then you've got a clear coat finish (NOTE: chrome wheels will not turn the towel black either, but that doesn't appear to be the issue here). In that case you want to use a paint cleaner like SwirlX or even Ultimate Compound to remove the fine defects. Stick with a foam wax applicator pad for working on clear coated wheels. Terry cloth can tend to haze the paint noticeably.

      Is that what you meant?

        *sigh*

Yeah, I need to not answer questions when I'm walking into a meeting!

I've changed the copy in my original post, so what I meant to say was that chrome won't turn the towel black either. Obviously these wheels are not chrome, judging by the image posted.
