is it necessary to have different groups of mf towels like some only for removing wax...some for using qd,some for removing compound, polish.

cuz me i just have a bunch of mf towels and i use them however, then wash them all and use them again however...

    is this bad?

also i washed my softbuff pads but the pad dont seem perfectly clean..is it never gonna look new again.. is this fine to use or wash again

      Re: mf towels

No need to organize exterior towels. I would separate exterior from interior though.

Do the pads look dirty, off-colored, etc.? Any pics?

        Re: mf towels

I separate my towels into the following categories:

        - Paintwork (removing wax & polish residue)
        - Claying
        - Interior
        - Exterior Trim / Engine bay / Door Jambs / Windows / General Purpose (I end up throwing a lot of these towels out - I use cheapie MF's for these and that are washed vigourously between uses)
        - Wheels

As a minimum, separate towels you use OUTSIDE the car to the ones you use INSIDE the car!
After you've finished using a towel on a car, you would definitely want to wash it before you use the same towel on another car.

As far as your pads, try washing them in hot (warm) water first with a little bit of dish soap to really get all the **** out of them. I do this first, then I throw all my pads together into the machine with some liquid laundry detergent - they come up nicely!

You can use some white vinegar in the final 'rinse' cycle if you wish, however to be honest I haven't found it to make a huge difference.

          Re: mf towels

I have better ones for dealing with paint, and cheaper for interior work. But no need to pick as far as one Supreme Shine for wax, and one Supreme Shine for polish, as long as you wash them.

Ok here is the deal!!!! For crying out loud!!! You cannot even use a mf towel once withought the fibers in the towel getting clogged up with product. And some members wonder where the streaks are coming from. Maybe it is because your towels are clogged with removed product.

Yes you should wash your towels after every detail or use whether it be windows, polish removal or wax removal.

I love MOL!! I have been here for a long time and I plan to stay. I have seen so much bad info posted lately, ie: don't wash your towels after you use them, bad product numbers and such. Please if you aren't sure what you are talking about do not respond to the post. The forum is here to help people who are car crazy, not give mis information about products or processes.

            Thanks

Excellent post Andy!!! Thank-you for being a diligent Moderator in keeping the information on MOL factual and accurate!

I ALWAYS wash my towels after each use. Heck, I use multiple towels per step! If a person wants a swirl free finish, one must do everything possible to obtain that show car finish and that includes washing towels. Otherwise you will get streaking, swirls etc and will not be able to cure the problems.

At this level of detailing, most people come to a site like this as they want that perfect finish. As such, the smallest mistake or misuse of product or material or machine will take away from the finish.

To wash the MF towels, I use Liquid Tide with a few squirts of blue Dawn Soap. I use Hot water to wash and warm to rinse. I will place them through a second rinse cycle just to make sure. Then when you dry the towels, either you let them hang to dry (like I do) or you can use the dryer, on low heat and make sure you do NOT use a dryer sheet of any type!!! I have used this procedure for years and it has worked extremely well for me.
