      Re: dust repellent?

Here is one discussion of the topic. I just did a quick search for static electricity.
      http://http://meguiarsonline.com/for...ic+electricity

I live in a rural area and in the fall during the harvest, dust is a problem and I need to be careful wiping the car with a microfiber. If not careful, the car developes a static charge.

Many mornings I use a California duster and Ultimate Quik Detailer.

Perhaps one of the wise ones on the list will have some good suggestions for us.

Car duster plus one of quick detailers could provide a solution.

If you remove dust/ dirt ,before it has a chance to bond to surface, it would make your car look cleaner longer.

I'm afraid once a week car wash may be necessary as well.

Would a car cover work in your case?

car cover is a good idea, im thinking in a wax in the future that cant be statically charged so it repel dust more than atract it.

Uniform coat of a synthetic wax would help for sure and it's gonna make quick detailing and car washing easier as well.

                  Re: dust repellent?

There is a QD from Finish Kare that is supposed to have some anti-static properties. I think it's #425, but don't quote me on that.

                    Anti-Static

Static [the process causes electrons to be pulled from the surface of one material and relocated on the surface of the other material]

Static electricity is an occasional annoyance in seasons of low humidity, but is usually caused when certain materials are rubbed against each other (friction).Using products that do not contain oils (i.e. polymer sealants) will help by not attracting dust.

Finish Kare's 425 quick detailer (QD) has in-built anti-static properties. A damp 100% cotton micro fibre towel is inherently anti-static; as opposed to the static build-up caused by friction using a polyester Microfiber towel on a polythene clear coat.

If you go rubbing QD all over a dusty car your going to do more harm then good

ain't car cover can make scratches on the bottom of the car??i think i heard that somewhere..

so, what i should do is wipe with car duster first and then finish with QD or UQD..am i right??

                            Re: dust repellent?

Sorry, no dust repellent in our lineup. Sometimes just the action of wiping a towel over a surface can create static electricity, not unlike rubbing a balloon on your hair and then being able to stick the balloon to a wall with the static created. Some substrates are more susceptible to this than others - the composite spoiler on my car will hold a charge when the rest of the steel panels won't. I see this on very dry days when wiping the hazed wax off the car and can literally feel the difference between the two surfaces through the towel. On more humid days the difference between the two substrates is virtually nil.
