  • Hello Mike Stoops

Thank you for sending me that link on the 5 step paint care setup. I am a new member here but not new towards Meguiars products...I have used them in my last auto I had ...a beautiful 2006 Deep Red Garnet Buick Rainier and thanks to your products I was able to upkeep her pretty good with my limited experience in detailing auto's so much so I keep her for 4 years and when I traded her in for my new Caddy this year she looked better then the day I bought her and thats why they gave me almost all my money back for her on the trade....everyone keep on asking me if it was brand new and when I would tell them it was a 2006 they couldnt believe it so thanks Meguiars on your outstanding consumer products for the very busy lives we live and making it so easy to use your products....a big thank you Now I see you have some new goodies out and they look good and I have been reading lots of good info in this forum from everyone and some very good tips that I have been writing down left and right and I mean hours and hours of reading I am looking to come up with a new game plan for my new caddy. The color on her is what they call a gray flannel metallic....or as some people been telling me a smoke gray...its dark. Now its too cold up here to do any hand washing right now but when it breaks you can bet I want to be ready so for now I go to the auto car wash up here...just spray no brushes!! and use the undercarriage wash too to get all that nasty winter junk off of her but I did notice the other day...of course it was a bright sunny day that I saw some fine scratchs on the fender even some swirl marks...hmm...must of been from the dealer no doubt ...I need your thoughts on my 5 step plan....I love the Gold class wash so I think I will keep that for now...read the wash plan over here...love that two bucket system...will be trying that this year...now for cleaning...will do the claying for sure...now how about using that new product next called SwirlX....whats your thoughts on that then when that is done maybe try using your new product called Ultimate polish on her...she is I would think a dark color gray....I have been reading about that product it sounds like a solid product and I since I do everything by hand....no machine yet then for protecting I am thinking on trying your Gold Class liquid wax...I have never tried liquid so that will be a first for me...I will need some helpful tips on that...maybe two applications of it...love the carnauba I must have carnauba...now will this liquid stain the trim and if so will it be easy to take off like with some #39....and the Gold class liquid looks like a new product too something like carnauba plus and I thought I saw a tag on the corner of the box saying new product....then to maintain maybe trying some of that ultimate quick wax and I will certainly use ultimate quick detailer for sure....so what do you think so far...I will have plenty more questions to come on the trim.....chrome and the interior tooI look forward to learning more and more from all of you and thank you all for helping us take care of these beautiful machines.

    Thanks

    1. Wash -
I love the Gold class wash so I think I will keep that for now...read the wash plan over here...love that two bucket system...will be trying that this year...
You should look for a Grit Guard as well for at leas tthe water bucket.

    2. Clay -
now for cleaning...will do the claying for sure...
    3. Clean -

now how about using that new product next called SwirlX....whats your thoughts on that then when that is done maybe try using your new product called Ultimate polish on her...she is I would think a dark color gray....I have been reading about that product it sounds like a solid product and I since I do everything by hand....no machine yet
It is hard to say which product exactly would be wanted to remove swirls. Esp by hand since it is harder. But if you had SwirlX and Ultimate Compound on your shelf, you should be able to remove anything.

The Ultimate Polish is new, so not loads of feedback yet. But you can certainly use it after.

    4. Protect -
for protecting I am thinking on trying your Gold Class liquid wax...I have never tried liquid so that will be a first for me...I will need some helpful tips on that...maybe two applications of it...love the carnauba I must have carnauba...now will this liquid stain the trim and if so will it be easy to take off like with some #39....and the Gold class liquid looks like a new product too something like carnauba plus and I thought I saw a tag on the corner of the box saying new product....
Make sure to try and get the Gold Class +. Yes it can stain trim, so wipe off right away.

What you would want is to apply a thin coat, let dry, and remove. Let it sit for ~15 minutes if possible. Then apply another thin coat, let dry, and remove.

    5. Maintain -

then to maintain maybe trying some of that ultimate quick wax and I will certainly use ultimate quick detailer for sure....
UQW is good for after future washes, and UQD is good for bird droppings ,etc. Remember UQD is not for claying though.

      Re: Hello Mike Stoops

Hi Ken, and welcome to MOL!

It sounds like you've got a good, solid plan for the new Caddy (congrats on the new car, by the way!). As Mat points out, whether SwirlX will be aggressive enough to remove any defects from the paint via hand work only remains to be seen, but we wouldn't be surprised at all if you needed to step up to Ultimate Compound. We would also highly recommend using our new Ultimate Polish as as follow up to the UC - on a dark gray metallic car it will really help to add clarity, gloss and depth to the finish. Top that off with our new Ultimate Wax and you should have one stellar glow on that Caddy. All of this, of course, after you clay!!
