  • Silverado's paint?

Does anyone have experience with chevy silverado's paint? It appears to be terrible. I have never seen a paint chip or swirl easier. Is it my truck or does anyone have a similar experience?
    I have a 2010 btw.

I've got a 2007 Chevy Avalanche and I swear you can sneeze and the paint will chip... I invested in a bug/stone deflector when I first got it and I'd hate to know what the front-end would look like if I hadn't.

I have detailed many GM pickups and vehicles for that matter.

The paint is on the softer side and easier to correct.

      What color is your pickup?

Ditto. 07 Black Avalanche LTZ here and the paint is on the softer side. My 07 Saab 9-3 has fairly hard paint, however. 2 GM's with drastically different paint!

It's black. I clayed it today. Plan to use my new da microfiber kit tomm. Any suggestions with this soft paint?
I hate all these chips. I've only had it 9 mos. I've been using dr colorchip with good results though.

How long did it take you to get the hang of the Colorchip system? I've heard that applying it is harder than it looks in the ads.

Try and start with the least aggressive method to get the job done first.

I have not used the colorchip system but rather live with the chips as touching them up can be more noticeable if not done right.

I agree, for a small chip ,I just take my finger and dab on a small amount of color match wax on the spot, wait a while and buff out.
Hides great on a dark vehicle.

I haven't heard of color match wax; can you talk more about it - how well it works & where you buy it?

If they are talking about Turtle wax color match / magic, then it is a wax that is dyed in different colors used to hide swirls and minor scratches. Whereas you most likely have a clearcoat finish, it would be like applying shoe polish on a window.

                        Re: Silverado's paint?

Just offering this as a solution to touching up a very small paint chip in lieu of trying to use touch up paint, very often the touch up paint looks worse than the chip. Not suggesting you wax the whole car with it and yes it does help hide the small chip or scratch especially on a dark blue or black car at least until you can come up with a permanent solution.

                          Re: Silverado's paint?

I have a couple of rock chips on my bumper & hood; tried touching them up with paint & a toothpick but no-go, it looked worse, like an acne pimple & I didn't want to use the wet sanding method for fear of making a small problem into something needing a professional paint job. Maybe this colored wax would be the way to go, I'm gonna give it a try.

I done GMC's from late 80's to 11's and there paint is all fairly easy to correct. Hyro-tech pads work wonders! No problems getting 99% correction. Jurys still out on MF system most cases it works great even faster in most cases because of cutting out 1 step. But I had 2010 black LTZ that corrected but left tons fine marring behind? Touching up chips with a toothpick and letting it dry and then wet sanding the spot smooth works very well.

It gets easier and your results improve each time you use it. First time my results were so-so, still had some recesses in the chips so the second application worked much better. The t-shirt method of dealing with peppered front ends works very well as it'd take you half a lifetime to deal with chips individually. Longevity was pretty good and after a couple of weeks cure time it polishes up without incident. YMMV.
