This is our response in the other thread you started about the burn through:
OK, so there was some overspray on the hood and the body shop used a rotary and wool pad to buff it off, right? This is a case where you probably could have done the job yourself with some clay and a little Quik Detailer. The huge difference is that claying won't take off any paint, and rotary/wool buffing will. In the case of this raised edge, it may well have taken off a significant amount of paint, and your aggressive multi pass follow up would then finish the job (or finish the error, as the case may be).
What is really, really unfortunate here, and what the rest of you guys can't see, is that this car was pretty badly swirled up before Manila Ice started. I remember this car from our 4/16/11 Saturday Class so overall you did an incredible job bringing it back. But this one little spot is almost tragic - you can't really prove the body shop did it, and you've subsequently buffed it fairly aggressively, so we highly doubt you'd ever be able to get the shop to pay for a repair.
So we think this is going to be a "lesson learned" situation, in both a good and bad way.
