  • Car vacuums for home use, options?

    Hey fellas,

Can anyone suggest a vacuum I could use that's not a huge wet/dry shop vac.
I'd like it to be something portable and I can use in my small driveway. I've checked out some Vac'n'Blo units and they SEEM pretty nice. Anybody with experience with these machines? Flaws? Praise? I looked into one of the Dyson handhelds and people say the battery only lasts 3 minutes but works extremely well. That's pretty much out. I rather it be corded. Also, I'd like one that can be used on wet surfaces like a shampooed rug.

Does such a vac exist? Am I asking too much?

I haver always used a Sears Shop Vac. I love being able to buy filter and extra attachments with out any problems right in the store. Im a fan of the 8 gal, IMO the 12 gal is just over kill since your going to empty the vac after using it.

I have an Oreck vacuum which plugs into the cigarette lighter of my car, i keep it in the trunk and vacuum often
it's not that powerful but i don't wait until the dirt accumulates

On AutoGeek recently there was a thread relating to a Kobalt wall mount vac available at Lowes. It is a nice size, can be carried around if needed, very long hose, two stage if I recall correctly. And, it even has a remote control. There were some great reviews of this product. Cost is $99.00.

That Kobalt is very similar to the one I use. It's a Craftsman wall mount. 5 HP and 5 Gallons. It is like pulling up to a car wash. Unwind the hose from the mount, turn it on and vacuum. When done, turn it off and hang up the hose. Its great. Also, you can get extension hoses for it. My hose is over 25 feet long so I can vacuum in the driveway without having to pull the cars into the garage. It's $100 just like the Kobalt. It's also a wet/dry vac so you can use it for extracting interiors, too.

I would get the Vac N Blo from Metro vacuums in the 4HP model, you will not be disappointed. One thing you must remember with that line of vacuums is that they are dry only, so that might be an issue.

Ah really... Well ok. The wet dry capability was what I was looking for. I think maybe going the sears or craftsman route might be a better alternative for me. Great ideas so far, keep'em coming!

I wanted this one, the wife shot the idea down since it was a wall mount

You can remove the canister. It has a long cord so it can still be portable.

This is the opposite of what you are asking I think and this is not useful for wet vacuuming but I have a Shark Navigator Lift Away at home. Great suction plus a turbo brush great for pet hair removal off carpets and upholstery. Suction level compares with a Dyson but half the price, I actually bought one for $150. Cant beat it. But I normally just use my 6.5 hp shop vac but I bought the smaller hose, 1 1/4" I think, and it has a very strong pull.

I would highly suggest this wet dry vac then. Just looks at the specs!

WOW, I am so glad I read this thread before buying my Rigid at home depot for 80 bucks. However I did buy the RIGID auto detailing kit though at HD while I was there, please tell me the attachments work on the Kobalt?

Looks impressive. I would want a much longer hose, though.
