Need help choosing a da polisher, pads, what products to use for paint care and exterior plastic.
Im really new to this please dont use short words like da for a polisher. So my car has alot of swirls, alot of water spots, hood is a little faded same clear, roof very faded but clear looks good. WHen I bought it hood scoop and spoler where all white because the clear was destroyed so i got that painted already.. Its a black car between.

    1. Is this right for me, how to apply each 1?
Ultimate compound, color x, then nxt 2.0

    2. Where is a good place to buy new or used da polisher? Someone selling a meguiars g100 for 115shipped is that a good deal has very low usage.

3.What pads do i need to buy or is better to buy them as a bundle with a da included?

    4. My other car just got repainted on hood and front bumper will a da polisher work to remove that thick paint that has right now, what pads for that.

    5. My exterior plastic things are all faded i tried something form meguiars but just makes it shine and after afew days its still faded i want to restore it to like new, im talking about my side mirrors, that trim on bottom of windshield, and those tinny plastics on passenger and drivers side.

It will work. If your paint is on the softer side SwirlX (less aggressive than Ultimate Compound) may be a good starting point. How to know? By performing a little test spot on small area (like 2' x 2') and see how each product leaves the surface.
ColorX is a mild cleaner wax (all in one AIO - paint cleaner, polish and protection/ wax).
NxT Tech Wax 2.0 is a finishing synthetic (not natural) wax offering long lasting protection.

    2. Where is a good place to buy new or used da polisher? Someone selling a meguiars g100 for 115shipped is that a good deal has very low usage.

    Amazon, eBay, Craigslist.
G100 is Meguiar's first generation dual action (DA) polisher. It will still work fine but second generation polishers have been much improved (more torque, smoother performance, ability to use larger pads).

You can't go wrong with one of these machines: Meguiar's G110v2, Griot's Garage 6" polisher, Porter Cable 7424 XP.
Probably Porter Cable or Griot's Garage polishers should run new around $120 and Meguiar's DA may be slightly more due to current high demand.

3.What pads do i need to buy or is better to buy them as a bundle with a da included?

The bundle (DA and pads) will offer you some savings comparing to buying everything separately. You need polishing pads and finishing pads. Polishing pads are used with paint cleaners (like Ultimate Compound) or cleaner polishes (like SwirlX). Finishing pads work with pure polishes (like Deep Crystal Polish) and waxes.

    4. My other car just got repainted on hood and front bumper will a da polisher work to remove that thick paint that has right now, what pads for that.

Absolutely. DA polisher will work on any type of paint: factory and re-sprayed. The same rule: you need polishing and finishing pads.

    5. My exterior plastic things are all faded i tried something form meguiars but just makes it shine and after afew days its still faded i want to restore it to like new, im talking about my side mirrors, that trim on bottom of windshield, and those tinny plastics on passenger and drivers side.

    What product was it?
I would recommend Ultimate Black (lotion) or Ultimate Protectant (spray) as they last really long and withstand rain etc. They work on all exterior and interior plastic (except clear plastic), vinyl and rubber parts/ trims. You may need to clean them first (if other product was used before and it's still there) before using Ultimate Black/ Protectant with Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner D101.
    I hope it helps.

      1. I thought color x was called that way because it adds color? should i skip this or not? I want to make a list of what ill be buying im trying to keep it less than 200 hundred with da polisher included. So Swirl X, Ultimate Compound, Color X? and Nxt. Any links that show how to get started? I already know what products to use to wash car.

      2. Since theres 1 used available right now what will be a good offer price for the g110 with duffle bag, new W7006, new W8006, and 4 terry cloth bonnets. Does the Porter Cable or Griot's Garage polishers comes with pads? So pads cost 12 bucks each?

      3. So ill need 3 same pads and 1 different? part number please. Can i use same pads if I get a g110? http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38996

      4. What pads and products do you recommend for that for my other stang that got painted on hood and bumper, right now its very thick and doesnt shine.

      5. I was using Meguiars natural shine protectant seems that it should be used for interior since theres a dashboard picture on the product.

I really appreciate your help reps at the end. More opinion someone else? thanks.

ColorX is a cleaner, wax. It's great to shine up a car that is already pretty clean and needs to be freshened up. You may use another wax on top of it. It is very user friendly.

Depending on where and how you buy your buffer, it may or may not include pads. If not included, yes they may cost around $12. Often difficult to find in brick and mortar stores (O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc.), you can search and find special prices on the internet.

I wouldn't use the terry cloth bonnets. Microfiber, microfiber, microfiber....repeat after me....microfiber!!

That is a great chart. The pads are pretty much universal in that they fit different manufacturer's buffers, but make sure you get the right backing plate for the buffer you buy. The backing plate is the interface between the buffer and the pad. Pads have Velcro backing that attaches to the backing plate which has the mating surface for the pad.

        4. What pads and products do you recommend for that for my other stang that got painted on hood and bumper, right now its very thick and doesnt shine.
Can you come back with some pictures to help us give you some advice?

        5. I was using Meguiars natural shine protectant seems that it should be used for interior since theres a dashboard picture on the product.
Yes, Natural Shine Protectant is a great product for the dashboard. Sometimes folks will recommend cleaning the dashboard with Quik Interior Detailer followed by Natural Shine. Then again sometimes folks just use Quik Interior Detailer.

I really appreciate your help reps at the end. More opinion someone else? thanks.
I love ColorX. It is so easy to use. However, I prefer to use it on a car that is already kind of clean. It goes on so easy and comes off easy, but I'm not sure in your case I would use it as my first product. It may not be aggressive enough. Remember however you want to always do a test spot, no matter what you decide to do.

In my opinion, please hang around here and do a bit more reading before starting your project and provide the folks here with some photos so they can give you proper guidance. Starting with an absolutely clean car is really key to any corrective work you attempt to perform.

Where in SoCal are you? We conduct free detailing classes here in Irvine as well as our ever popular Thursday Night Open Garage sessions. If you're new to this, nothing beats some hands on training with the guys who make the stuff. Yeah, that'd be us.

this is a good start for pads and a machine. Basic but all you need with out any polishes if you like Lake Country Pads

Best Option Full blown kit. 100% Meguiars

My Choice, I would Order 2 extra white Lake Country Pads with this or ask them to swap out the black with white.

Buffing & Polishing Kits - Purchasing a car care kit offers several benefits: You save time picking out individual items, you get the precise products that you need for your project, and you save lots of money! Pre-packaged buffing pad kits are no ...

As for products if your going to piece meal

                You only need

                M105

                M205

7 or 80 (Optional Pure Polish, IMO 205 does just fine on modern clear coats)

Any LSP, NXT 2.0 is great, Ultimate Wax is better

As for the pads I like Lake Country

                3- Orange

                3- White

1- Black (optional, like to apply glaze with the black)

                1- Blue

Just received my G100 a couple of days ago, I measure the backing plate and its 5.0 inches and decided to purchase lake country 5.5 pads. Theres a package of 6 for 35.00. Which color of pads do i need.

                      I'd go with 2 orange; 2 white; 1 black; 1 red

Lose the Color X. #105 and #205 are great, but #105 can be a PITA for the newbie. Frankly I've had good luck this spring using Ult Compound, Ult Polish with BFWD and Chem Guys EZ Glaze.
