  • Tires look awful after using Hot Shine Foam...any suggestions?

I just bought Hot Shine Foam for my tires in hopes to make my tires look like the day i bought my car a few months back. When i first washed my tires, after they dried they had a brown look to them. So i bought this Hot Shine Form in hopes to get them shiny looking again. Well second try at this tire cleaning task and still not good. Now they are brown and have some spots that are white looking. Is there something i did wrong? I rinsed it off after i let it soak for a few mins. Was i suppose to let it sit and just disappear on it's own and not rinse? Any suggestions? This car care stuff is all new to me and I'm trying to keep my new car looking new. Any suggestions on how to use this product or if someone knows something better, please let me know.

    Thanks so much!

What did you wash with? Just rag and soap and water? Might need to take a scrub brush and really get into the tires. They older tires? New? How were they taken care of before? Did you use Armor All before? If they came out brown sounds to me that there is just a lot of build up on them and need some extra TLC. Maybe use the gel?

If your tires were still brown when you applied the Hot Shine then that is where you went wrong. Hot Shine is *not* a tire cleaner - it is only a dressing.

You will want to use an all-purpose cleaner or a degreaser with a stiff brush and clean the tires thoroughly, rinsing often, until no more brown remains. THEN you apply the Tire Shine and enjoy

Hum...my tires will be clean but look brown from the water at times.

I used to try Hot Shine products, but didn't get great results and I got a lot of sling from the gel.

I switched to the updated Endurance Spray recently and sprayed extremely liberally onto a towel and then wipe it heavily on the tires, but not leaving lots of beaded up excess.

Fantastic results. Tires looked great and I didn't get any sling after 12 hours.

Seemed to be a solid product.

The brown you saw on your sidewalls is the anti-ozonants added to the tire during manufacturing. This component is there to prevent the rubber from being damaged by ozone (UV is not the big culprit with tire damage, it's ozone) and it is designed to leech to the surface when the tires are in motion and under load. It is perfectly normal, though somewhat annoying, and will vary from one tire make and model to another. Technically it is called "blooming".

If you don't properly clean it off first then when you do apply a tire dressing, especially an aerosol, some of the ingredients in the dressing will act to release this material and can sometimes make things look worse. Aerosols can show this effect more readily because of the propellants used to make the product spray out of the can act as a solvent. This is what you're seeing when using the tire foam.

So, what you need to do, as others have recommended, is to properly clean the sidewall with an all purpose cleaner and a stiff brush, then let them dry fully before applying the tire foam. You don't really want to rinse the tire foam off, either. It's best to apply it and let it settle for several minutes, then come back with an old but clean terry cloth towel and thoroughly wipe down the sidewall to remove any excess or standing product. Be especially mindful of any grooves or graphics on the sidewall as excess product can hang on in those tight spaces and it will let go when the tire starts spinning fast enough. You can't over come physics!

There will be white "spots" after using Hot Shine Tire Foam. It will go away as the foam sits on the tire.

Should we be removing this stuff at all? If the brown is a protectant maybe we should leave it on?

Even on the untreated tires the blooming process eventually occurs as the tires are exposed to driving conditions, rain, snow, etc.

Geez, I take a weekend off and......

The "protection" is less from any material just sitting on the surface and more from it leaching to the surface. It will continue to do so, even if you clean off what's on the surface. Not cleaning off the excess means driving around with ugly brown tires. You're perfectly fine cleaning the sidewalls as the anti-ozonants will continue to leach to the surface, always giving you something to clean up!

                            Glad you got there first.

This stuff is killer. Works mint everytime. Get a good brush with many bristles. Mist a little water on the brush an tire. Spray down, start scrubbing. Rinse and re peat, may need to let it dwell for a few seconds.

It can take a nearly black/brown rim and give it 90-95% correction first time use.

Also do not use on uncoated aluminum. It would stain.

Once done then let dry and my personal fav is Hyper Dressing 1 : 1 ratio.
